oyin Adewale shares how a viral cover song connected Mayorkun to Davido and launched his music career.

A single social media message helped change the course of Mayorkun’s life.

Toyin Adewale, the veteran Nollywood actress and mother of Nigerian singer Mayorkun, has opened up about the moment her son first connected with Afrobeats superstar Davido—a relationship that would later launch one of Nigeria’s most successful music careers.

According to Talk To B, Adewale recalled that everything started after Mayorkun recorded and shared his now-famous cover of Davido’s hit song The Money. The performance quickly gained attention online and eventually caught Davido’s eye.

But when the first message arrived, the family did not believe it was real.

Adewale revealed that Mayorkun and his brother initially assumed someone was pretending to be the award-winning singer. The doubts remained until Davido personally called Mayorkun.

The actress said the call left her son overwhelmed with excitement. During the conversation, Davido reportedly praised the cover and explained that he was away at the time but planned to meet him upon returning.

That meeting soon followed.

According to Adewale, Davido welcomed Mayorkun and his brother warmly, presenting them with gifts and financial support. At the time, she admitted she was unfamiliar with Davido and felt uncertain about the situation.

The relationship quickly developed beyond a simple introduction.

The following day, Mayorkun returned to work with Davido and recorded Eleko, the breakout single that would become one of the biggest songs of his early career. Adewale explained that music came naturally to her son because of his background in poetry writing and church choir activities.
