Fourteen-year-old Boluwatife Balogun, popularly known as Champz, has become the youngest Nigerian and African artist to surpass one million monthly listeners on Spotify. Current figures place his listenership at approximately 1,004,060, marking a significant milestone for the emerging musician.
The achievement comes less than three weeks after the release of his debut EP, Champion’s Arrival, released on 11 November 2025. The five-track project blends rap, afro-swing and Afrobeats, presenting a bold artistic direction for a teenage newcomer.
Within hours of its release, the EP reached No. 1 on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Albums chart, making Champz the youngest artist to top the platform in the country. It has also charted in 16 countries and secured a spot at No. 71 on the UK Apple Music Top Albums chart.
Industry observers have praised Champz for his confident delivery and distinctive sound, noting that his growing popularity extends beyond his connection to his father, Afrobeats star Wizkid. The EP features no guest artists, keeping the focus solely on his vocal and stylistic range.
His mother, Oluwanishola Ogudu, expressed her appreciation to supporters on social media, thanking listeners for embracing her son's debut project. A viral courtside video also captured Wizkid acknowledging his pride and suggesting the possibility of a future collaboration.
As Champz continues to gain momentum, many fans and analysts believe his early success could set new standards for young talent in the Afrobeats and global music scene.
