Nigerian singer Sola Allyson has shared new details about her transition from Islam to Christianity, attributing the change to her upbringing, exposure to multiple religious environments, and her personal search for spiritual understanding.
Allyson, born Rasheedat into a Muslim family, explained in an interview on Oyinmomo TV that she spent her early childhood with her maternal grandmother in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where she practised Islam and participated in daily prayers.
Her perspective began to shift when she later moved to Ikorodu, Lagos, to live with her paternal grandparents. There, she reconnected with a childhood friend who introduced her to Christian worship and church activities.
The singer noted that she has always appreciated her Islamic background, including the meaning of her birth name, Rasheedat, which she described as “someone who is wise.”
Allyson said her exposure to different religious settings, combined with extensive personal reading—including literature on Buddhism—shaped her understanding of spirituality. She added that her living circumstances often required her to adapt to the religious practices of those around her.
According to her, the most important aspect of her faith journey has been understanding God’s will rather than conforming strictly to any single religion.
Allyson’s music career began on January 17, 1997, after she attended a music training session at a Celestial Church of Christ.
