To change or correct the date of birth on your NIN, use the official NIMC Self-Service Modifications portal at selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng. You will need a digitised National Population Commission (NPC) birth certificate or attestation certificate, and you must pay the Date of Birth modification fee inside the portal.
NIMC warns that NIN data modifications should only be done on that official portal — not on random websites or through unverified agents.
Quick answer
Get a digitised NPC birth certificate (if born after 1992) or digitised NPC attestation certificate (if born before 1992). If your birth certificate is missing, complete birth attestation online via the National Population Commission site linked from NIMC.
Open https://selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng/ and verify your NIN, then log in.
On your dashboard, select the date of birth modification option.
Pay the Date of Birth fee through Paystack inside the portal (NIMC’s fees page lists N28,574 for Date of Birth — confirm the amount shown before you pay).
Enter and validate your NPC certificate number. Your date of birth is filled automatically and is not editable by hand.
Upload your NPC certificate and any required supporting documents, preview the change, tick the attestation box, and submit.
Save your modification transaction slip. After approval, NIMC can send the updated NIN slip to your email, and you can also print from your dashboard.

What you need
Your existing NIN (already enrolled)
Access to the phone number and email you will use on the portal
Digitised NPC Birth Certificate — if you were born after 1992
Digitised NPC Attestation Certificate — if you were born before 1992
Your NPC certificate number ready to validate on the portal
A way to pay the official Date of Birth fee inside the portal (Paystack)
NIMC’s self-service page says: if you have misplaced your birth certificate, complete the birth attestation online at the National Population Commission website (NIMC links nationalpopulation.org.ng from that guide).
Step-by-step: change your NIN date of birth
1. Get the right NPC document
NIMC lists only digitised NPC documents for Date of Birth modification:
Born before 1992: digitised NPC Attestation Certificate
Born after 1992: digitised NPC Birth Certificate
Do not rely on handwritten or informal age declarations alone. The portal validates your NPC certificate number and fills the date of birth for you.
2. Open only the official portal
Go to https://selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng/. Ignore WhatsApp “agents”, lookalike domains, and apps that ask for OTP outside NIMC.

3. Verify your NIN and log in
Begin by verifying your NIN and logging in, as listed on NIMC’s self-service modifications page.
4. Choose date of birth modification
On your dashboard, select the date of birth modification option — not name, address or phone. DOB has its own fee and document rules.
5. Pay the official Date of Birth fee
Complete payment securely via Paystack inside the portal. According to nimc.gov.ng/fees, Date of Birth modification carries its own fee of N28,574 (it is not the N2,000-per-field fee used for other adult modifications).
Always confirm the amount shown on the official portal before you pay. Keep your payment receipt. Do not pay a third party who claims they can “rush” NIMC for you.
6. Validate your NPC certificate number
After payment, input your NPC certificate number and validate it. NIMC says your date of birth will be automatically filled and non-editable.
7. Upload documents and submit
Upload your NPC certificate and any required supporting documents. Submit the request, preview the adjustments, and tick the attestation box before final submission.
You should receive a modification transaction slip on the modification table — save or screenshot it.

8. After approval
When approved, NIMC says you receive a notification and your NIN slip is dispatched to your email. You can also print the slip from your dashboard.
Your NIN number itself does not change — only the date of birth linked to it. Need a fresh slip later? See How to Download and Print Your NIN Slip.
Current fees
According to nimc.gov.ng/fees:
Date of Birth modification: N28,574
Other adult modifications (names, phone, address, etc.): N2,000 per updatable field
NIN enrolment: free
Confirm the live amount on the portal and on nimc.gov.ng/fees before paying. Fees can change.
Common problems and fixes
NPC certificate will not validate
Check that you are using a digitised NPC certificate and typing the certificate number exactly. If the certificate is lost, complete NPC birth attestation first, then return to the NIMC portal.
I tried to type a new date of birth myself
You cannot. After NPC validation, NIMC fills the date of birth automatically and locks it. Fix the underlying NPC record if the date is wrong there.
I used a wrong website
Stop. Only use selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng. If you already typed passwords or OTP on a fake site, change related passwords and contact NIMC through nimc.gov.ng.

Payment succeeded but status is pending
Keep your receipt and transaction slip. Stay on the official portal and check the modification table. Do not pay again through an agent.
I need a name correction, not DOB
Use the name guide instead: How to Correct Your Name on Your NIN. Name changes use different documents and the N2,000-per-field fee, not the DOB fee.
Scam warning
NIMC: modify NIN data only on selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.
Ignore WhatsApp/Telegram “NIN DOB change agents” and lookalike domains.
Never share your NIN, OTP, portal password or payment PIN with strangers.
Do not pay anyone outside the official portal Paystack flow to “fix” your date of birth.

FAQs
Can I change my NIN date of birth at an enrolment centre?
NIMC directs the public to the self-service portal for Date of Birth, name, phone and address modifications. Use selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng unless NIMC’s own site tells you otherwise.
Does my NIN number change when I correct my date of birth?
No. Your National Identification Number stays the same. The date of birth field linked to that NIN is updated after approval.
Why is DOB more expensive than a name change?
NIMC lists Date of Birth as a separate modification with its own fee (N28,574 on the fees page), while other adult updatable fields are charged N2,000 per field.
Where can I get help?
Use contact options on nimc.gov.ng. NIMC has published toll-free line 08000616462 on its site.
