You can retrieve your Bank Verification Number without visiting a bank branch by dialling 5650# from the mobile number registered to your BVN.
The service is operated by the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, or NIBSS, in collaboration with Nigerian banks. It works without mobile data and costs ₦20 per request, according to NIBSS.
Quick answer: Using the phone number linked to your BVN, dial 5650#. Approve the ₦20 charge and wait for your 11-digit BVN to appear. The service will not return a number if the phone line is linked to more than one BVN.
Official Code for Checking Your BVN
The official NIBSS code is:
5650#
This code retrieves an existing BVN. It does not create a new BVN, change your personal details or link the number to another bank account.
NIBSS describes a BVN as a unique 11-digit number that identifies a person across their Nigerian bank accounts. A customer should have one BVN linked to every account held in their name, not a different BVN for each bank.
