Current official fees
NIS announced a fee review that took effect on 1 September 2025. Confirm the amount shown on the portal before you pay, because NIS can revise fees again.

Step-by-step: fresh (first) passport
1. Open the correct portal
In Nigeria, use passport.immigration.gov.ng and continue for applicants within Nigeria. Outside Nigeria, use passportintl.immigration.gov.ng.
2. Start a fresh application
From the dashboard, select Apply for Fresh Passport. NIS also lists Renewal/Re-issue and Correction of Data as separate options on the same portals.
3. Verify your NIN
Enter your NIN and date of birth for second-level checks. Personal details are pulled from your NIMC record. Check the name, date of birth, and gender carefully before you continue.
4. Choose centre and booklet
Select the Immigration processing centre where you will attend biometrics, and choose 32 pages or 64 pages. You can check centre availability on the portal before you commit.

5. Upload photo and complete contacts
Upload an ICAO-compliant picture. Provide a valid email, your contact address, and next-of-kin details.
6. Upload supporting documents
Upload the documents required for your application type (see the requirements section). Common uploads include an NPC birth certificate or age declaration and a state of origin or identification letter.
7. Submit, pay, and book
Review everything, submit, then pay on the portal and book your biometric appointment. Print your acknowledgement slip and evidence of payment.
8. Attend biometric capture
Appear at the chosen Immigration office on your appointment date with your slips and original documents. NIS requires in-person photograph and biometric data capture. Diaspora applicants submit and capture at the nearest Nigeria Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate as directed.
Renewal or re-issue
On the same portals, choose Apply for Renewal/Re-issue. You will verify your NIN, provide current passport details for comparison against NIN data, select centre and booklet size, upload an ICAO photo and supporting documents, then pay and book biometrics. Bring your passport booklet to the appointment when renewing.

Important: Nigerian citizens by naturalisation, registration, adoption, or surrogacy can only process applications at NIS Headquarters, Abuja, according to the passport portals.

Common problems and tips
