The Democratic Republic of Congo has outlined its next steps for school football after officials presented a post-tournament review of the country’s U15 African Schools Football Championship campaign to Education Minister Raïssa Malu on April 22.
According to the report, delivered by a delegation led by LINAFJ president Zéphyr Kanyinda, the girls’ team finished fifth and the boys’ team eighth at the Harare event held from April 6 to 10.
The discussion with the ministry focused on what should come next rather than only on the final rankings. The delegation identified stronger technical supervision and better team preparation as priority areas, while also calling for improved support for technical staff on national and international assignments.
The broader tournament sits inside CAF’s school football development programme, whose 2026 continental finals were hosted in Harare, Zimbabwe, from April 2 to 10 and featured DR Congo in both the girls’ and boys’ competitions.
CAF says the championship is designed to connect football development with education, skills-building and institutional support.
That wider framework helps explain why Kinshasa’s review matters. Beyond match results, the CAF competition is meant to strengthen school football systems, and Congolese officials now appear to be using that moment to push for better coaching structures and more serious preparation before future continental outings.
