A team of Chinese medical experts has arrived in Kinshasa for a three-month mission to support the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ebola response, according to 7sur7.

The five-member team is expected to begin work with Congolese health institutions and disease surveillance structures, focusing on epidemiological analysis, prevention, control, and case management.

China’s National Health Commission announced the deployment of the expert team as part of international solidarity efforts to help the Democratic Republic of Congo respond to the Ebola outbreak.

The deployment comes after the World Health Organization declared the Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17, 2026.

Lu Ming, head of the Chinese expert team, said the specialists would work according to needs expressed by the Congolese side. Congolese officials described the mission as timely support at a critical stage of the outbreak response.

The mission adds another layer of international assistance as Congo works to strengthen surveillance, medical care, and outbreak-control capacity.
