Nollywood actress Shirley Igwe has welcomed the Actors Guild of Nigeria’s decision to lift the suspension placed on her following an incident on a Lagos movie set on July 19. The reinstatement, confirmed this week, brings an end to months of uncertainty for the actress.
Igwe said the decision offered her relief as she believed it cleared her name and validated her account of what transpired. She noted that support from colleagues and well-wishers helped her remain steady throughout the process and ensured her story was eventually understood.
Reflecting on the July incident, Igwe maintained that she acted in self-defence after the situation escalated unexpectedly. She said the experience taught her the value of staying calm, particularly in moments where she feels unfairly treated. According to her, the incident also highlighted how quickly misinformation can spread.
Igwe added that the episode has encouraged her to adopt a more composed approach during tense situations on set. She plans to exercise greater caution, communicate more clearly, and rely on her manager to guide professional interactions to prevent misunderstandings.
During her suspension, the actress said she used the time to rest and reflect on her career. The break, she explained, helped her reconnect with her passion for acting and become more selective about the types of productions she intends to participate in moving forward.
