Mali’s military-led government is facing renewed pressure after a Reuters report said Al Qaeda-linked JNIM called on Malians to rise up and support Sharia law following coordinated attacks across the country.
The next step now centers on the junta’s military response. Assimi Goïta has vowed that operations will continue until armed groups are “neutralized,” after attacks hit Bamako, Kati, Kidal and other areas.
It was reported that the assaults involved JNIM and Tuareg separatists from the Azawad Liberation Front, marking one of Mali’s largest coordinated attacks in years.
The crisis also carries wider Sahel implications. Mali has relied heavily on Russian security support since pushing out French and UN-backed forces, while insecurity has continued to spread across the region.
For Bamako, the immediate test is whether the junta can secure key roads, contain armed-group pressure and prevent further territorial losses after the latest escalation.
