SASSA has announced the payment dates for July 2025 grants, urging beneficiaries not to rush to withdraw cash on the first day, as funds will remain safely in their accounts until needed.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the official grant payment schedule for July 2025, ensuring millions of South Africans can plan ahead for essential expenses.
✔ Older Person’s Grants: Payments start on Wednesday, 2 July 2025. This includes any grants linked to these accounts.
✔ Disability Grants: Payments start on Thursday, 3 July 2025.
✔ Children’s Grants: Payments start on Friday, 4 July 2025.
“There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed,” SASSA emphasised.

Latest SASSA Updates You Should Know
1. Grant Increases Effective From May 2025
As part of the R387.3 billion social grant budget for 2025/26, beneficiaries have received increased amounts since May:
Old Age (60–74), Disability, Care Dependency: R2,315
Old Age (75+): R2,335
Foster Care: R1,250 (R50 increase)
Child Support: R560 (R20 increase)
These include a R90 increase in April 2025, plus an additional R10 increase set for October 2025.
2. SRD Grant Extension
The R350 SRD grant has been extended until March 2026, with R33.6 billion allocated to support unemployed South Africans in 2025/26.
3. Postbank Black Card Transition
The transition deadline to Postbank’s new Black Card ended in June 2025. Beneficiaries who failed to migrate may struggle to access grants through old channels. They are advised to visit Postbank urgently to complete the card swap process.
⚠ Important Reminder:Postbank Black Card users cannot be served at Post Office branches and must use designated retailers or ATMs for transactions.

✅ Who qualifies for the Older Person’s Grant?
Applicants must be South African citizens, permanent residents, or refugees aged 60 years or older, not receiving another social grant, and must pass the means test. They must live in South Africa and not be cared for in a state institution.
✅ Who can get the Child Support Grant?
The primary caregiver must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee living in South Africa with the child. The child must be under 18, not cared for in a state institution, and applicants cannot apply for more than six non-biological children.
✅ Who qualifies for the Foster Child Grant?
The foster parent must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee, living in South Africa with the child who has been legally placed under their care.
✅ What are the requirements for the Disability Grant?
Applicants must be South African citizens, permanent residents, or refugees aged 18 to 59, with a medical assessment report (not older than 3 months) confirming the disability. They must pass the means test and not be cared for in a state institution or receiving another personal social grant.
✅ Who can receive the Care Dependency Grant?
This is for caregivers of children under 18 with permanent, severe disabilities. Both must live in South Africa, and applicants must pass the means test. Children cared for in state institutions do not qualify. Foster parents’ income is not considered, and they can apply for both Foster Child and Care Dependency Grants for the same child.

It supports individuals already receiving Older Person’s, Disability, or War Veteran’s grants who need full-time care due to physical or mental disabilities. It cannot be applied for alone and will end if the main grant stops.
