Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has formally aligned with the Accord Party, following the recent political realignment of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The musician confirmed his decision on Tuesday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, announcing plans to travel to Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to collect his party membership card.
Davido said he would complete the process at the state government house, popularly known as Imole House.
His announcement comes weeks after Governor Adeleke adopted the Accord Party as his new political platform ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election. The governor officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 9, 2025, during a ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, attended by party leaders and supporters.
Explaining his defection at the time, Adeleke cited internal leadership disputes at the national level of the PDP. He stated that the decision followed consultations with political stakeholders and opinion leaders, adding that he formally joined the Accord Party on November 6 as part of preparations for his re-election bid.
Davido had earlier reacted publicly to his uncle’s resignation from the PDP by reposting the announcement on social media with a brief caption, signaling support for the move.
The singer’s entry into partisan politics further highlights the growing intersection between Nigeria’s entertainment industry and its political landscape.
