Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker Uche Jombo has revealed that she nearly walked away from the Nigerian film industry after joining at the age of 17.
Speaking during an interview at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), the actress reflected on the challenges she faced throughout her career and how passion for filmmaking kept her going despite difficult moments.
Uche Jombo said there were periods when she questioned her future in the industry, especially when acting opportunities became limited. According to her, such moments are common in the profession and can make actors doubt themselves.
“You started at 17. Was there a point you almost gave up? Yeah. Sometimes that happens, but it comes with the job,” she said during the interview.
The actress, known for films such as Games Men Play and Damage, also spoke about adapting to changes in Nollywood and staying relevant in an industry filled with younger talents. She explained that love and passion for storytelling have remained her biggest motivation over the years.
Jombo emphasized the importance of authentic storytelling in Nollywood, urging filmmakers to continue telling African stories that reflect local experiences and culture.
The producer also shared her views on filmmaking for cinema and YouTube, noting that cinema productions require stronger technical quality and larger budgets to achieve a cinematic experience.
Looking ahead, Uche Jombo said she plans to pursue bigger projects in 2026 while remaining committed to creating impactful stories for audiences.
