Nigerian socialite and nightlife entrepreneur Pretty Mike has opened up about relationships, controversy and the realities of Nigeria’s entertainment industry, revealing that many weddings where he served as best man have ended in divorce.
Pretty Mike, whose real name is Mike E,ze-Nwalie Nwogu, made the remarks during an interview with Saturday Sun, where he discussed his career, nightclub business and personal views on marriage. He said he has been best man at more than 40 weddings, but many of those unions eventually collapsed.
Despite his concerns about modern relationships, the Lagos socialite said he still believes in marriage and hopes to build a family in the future. According to him, lasting relationships are built more on character, respect and understanding than physical appearance.
The nightclub owner also reflected on his rise in Nigeria’s entertainment scene, explaining how his passion for parties and nightlife eventually led him into the hospitality business. He spoke about helping to build popular nightlife brands in Lagos before launching his own club, Proxy.
Pretty Mike further addressed controversies surrounding his public stunts, saying they were designed to keep his brand relevant and spark conversations. He acknowledged that some of the stunts attracted criticism but insisted they were part of entertainment and branding.
Speaking on the closure of Proxy nightclub following an NDLEA raid, he described the experience as financially and emotionally difficult. He said the business suffered losses running into billions of naira during the shutdown period before the club eventually reopened.
The socialite added that he has since invested heavily in renovating the club and introducing new entertainment concepts aimed at rebuilding the brand’s reputation within Lagos nightlife culture.
