A young woman has died following a crowd crush during a concert by Nigerian music star Asake in Nairobi, Kenyan authorities have confirmed.

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, 2025, outside Nyayo National Stadium as large numbers of fans attempted to enter the venue. Police said the victim, identified as 20-year-old Karen Lojore, died near an entrance gate after congestion developed among concertgoers.

Asake, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade, later issued a public statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident. In a message shared on Instagram, the artist offered condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and supporters, describing the death as devastating. He also pledged to cooperate with authorities to help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Kenyan police confirmed that while the congestion was later brought under control, one fatality had already occurred. A police spokesperson stated that the concert continued after the situation was stabilized.

Tukutane Entertainment, the event organizer, also acknowledged the incident and urged the public to respect the privacy of the victim’s family. The company said it is working closely with security agencies to support ongoing investigations and discouraged the spread of unverified information.

The concert, held at Nyayo Stadium—an 18,000-capacity venue—was part of Asake’s ongoing Africa tour and featured a collaboration with British-Nigerian artist Gabzy.

This is not the first time the artist has been linked to a fatal crowd incident. In December 2022, two people died during a crowd surge at his concert at London’s Brixton Academy. At the time, Asake publicly expressed regret and said he cooperated fully with authorities investigating that case.

Authorities in Kenya have not yet released further details on whether additional safety measures failed or if charges could follow as investigations continue.
