Nigerian rapper Olamide has revealed that past incidents during live performances continue to affect his confidence on stage.
Speaking in a recent interview, the artist—also known as “Baddo”—said he still experiences anxiety before performing, despite his long-standing career in the music industry. He attributed this fear to previous situations where individuals unexpectedly approached him during shows and took personal belongings.
According to Olamide, some of these incidents involved fans grabbing items such as jewelry or caps while he was performing, creating moments of disruption and uncertainty.
He explained that such experiences have had a lasting psychological impact, making him more cautious whenever he appears on stage.
The rapper noted that each performance carries an element of unpredictability, contributing to the tension he feels before going on stage.
Despite these concerns, Olamide remains one of the most influential figures in African music. His shows continue to draw large crowds, reflecting his enduring popularity across the continent and beyond.
Born Olamide Gbenga Adedeji in Lagos, Nigeria, he gained recognition with his debut album Rapsodi in 2011. He later founded YBNL Nation in 2012, a record label that has supported the rise of several successful artists, including Fireboy DML and Asake.
Known for blending Afrobeat, hip-hop, and street-inspired sounds, Olamide has maintained a strong presence in the industry for over a decade. His ability to connect with audiences through music rooted in everyday experiences has contributed to his sustained success.
While his performances continue to attract widespread attention, his comments highlight the challenges artists may face behind the scenes, particularly in managing safety and confidence during live events.
