According to the source article, Trinidadian-American rapper Nicki Minaj publicly voiced her support for U.S. President Donald Trump during a policy event in Washington, D.C., where she described herself as his “number one fan” and praised his leadership.
Minaj joined Trump on stage on January 28 at the Treasury Department’s Trump Accounts Summit, held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium. The event highlighted a newly introduced federal initiative known as “Trump Accounts,” which allocates $1,000 investment funds for children born between 2025 and 2028, provided parents enroll them while filing income taxes.
During the event, Trump invited Minaj to address the audience after she expressed support for the programme. The rapper was seen holding hands with the president as she spoke, stating that public criticism of Trump had strengthened rather than weakened her support for him.
Minaj also showcased what she referred to as a Trump “gold card,” a residency programme launched in December that offers wealthy applicants U.S. residency and a pathway to citizenship in exchange for a $1 million fee and a separate processing charge. She shared images of the card on social media platform X, later adding that she was finalising citizenship paperwork and that the card had been provided at no cost.
The artist has previously criticised Trump’s immigration policies, particularly family separation at the U.S. border. In past statements, she revealed that she migrated to the United States as a child with her parents and described herself as a non-citizen despite living in the country for decades.
While the gold card grants Minaj the right to reside in the United States, it does not automatically confer citizenship. Her public endorsement comes amid heightened national debate over immigration enforcement, following recent protests linked to fatal encounters involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
The appearance contrasts with reactions from other musicians. On the same day, Bruce Springsteen released a protest song criticising ICE operations, underscoring the divided response within the entertainment industry to the administration’s immigration stance.
