Miley Cyrus has spoken about the personal impact of losing her Malibu home in the 2018 Woolsey Fire, describing the experience as a life-changing moment that continues to influence her music and outlook.
The Grammy-winning artist said the destruction of the California property, which she shared with former partner Liam Hemsworth, occurred just weeks before their wedding. The fire wiped out a space filled with personal and creative memories, making the loss especially difficult to process.
In a recent interview, Cyrus explained that music became a central part of her recovery. She said songwriting helped her work through the emotional aftermath of the wildfire and find a way forward after rebuilding her life from scratch.
Cyrus noted that her song “Dream As One,” written for the film Avatar: Fire and Ash, was deeply inspired by her own experiences. The film follows a community forced to survive after losing its home, a storyline she said closely mirrored her own journey.
Reflecting on the period, the singer said she was away on a work trip in South Africa when the fire occurred and married Hemsworth shortly afterward. She later described the loss as transformative, saying it reshaped how she views life and resilience.
Cyrus also confirmed in recent interviews that her Malibu home has now been fully rebuilt, seven years after the wildfire.
