Janice Combs, mother of music executive Sean “Diddy” Combs, has issued a public statement rejecting several claims presented in the new Netflix documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning, produced by 50 Cent. The series revisits events from the hip-hop mogul’s past and has sparked widespread debate since its release.

In her statement, Janice said the documentary contains distortions that misrepresent her family. She argued that the production “sensationalised” aspects of their history and asserted that some allegations were presented in a misleading manner.

Janice specifically denied claims by former Bad Boy Records executive Kirk Burrowes, who alleged that Diddy slapped his mother during a conversation following the 1991 City College tragedy, which resulted in nine deaths. She described the allegation as “inaccurate and patently false,” adding that the day remained deeply painful for the family.

She also criticised Burrowes for linking the tragedy to what she characterised as “false narratives” connected to his past disputes over ownership claims involving Bad Boy Records.

The documentary includes additional allegations about Diddy’s childhood, including claims from a childhood acquaintance who accused Janice of abusive behaviour. Janice said the accusations were fabricated and damaging to her reputation as a parent.

Discussion surrounding the documentary intensified after an older video of Diddy kissing his mother on the lips resurfaced online, prompting renewed speculation about their relationship.

Janice said her decision to speak out was driven by a desire to preserve the truth and counter what she described as targeted misrepresentation of her family’s past.
