Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai has criticised the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) following her exclusion from the 2026 nominations.

The nominations for the 12th edition of the awards were recently announced, with Afegbai’s co-star in To Kill A Monkey, Bimbo Akintola, receiving a nomination for Best Lead Actress.

Reacting to the development, Afegbai questioned her omission, stating that her character, Idia, was among the most prominent in the series.

In a post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account, the actress dismissed the importance of nominations, saying she does not rely on awards for validation.

“I don’t need a nomination for validation. The truth is clear,” she wrote, adding that her performance had received strong public attention.

Afegbai also expressed frustration with the selection process, using blunt language to criticise the organisers’ decision.

The AMVCA remains one of Africa’s most prominent film and television awards, recognising achievements across the industry annually.
