Ugandan music star Jose Chameleone has officially launched a radio station in Burundi, fulfilling a pledge he made to President Évariste Ndayishimiye during a visit to the country in December 2025.

The radio station, Chameleone FM 94.9, is based in Bujumbura and has begun broadcasting across the city and nearby areas. The launch marks Chameleone’s formal entry into Burundi’s media industry through private investment.

According to information shared at the inauguration, the station will focus on music, entertainment, youth-oriented programs, and cultural content. It will also provide a platform for Burundian artists while promoting music from the East African region and international markets.

Speaking at the launch event, Chameleone said the station is intended to connect people through music, culture, and information. He added that his investment reflects his long-standing relationship with Burundi and its citizens.

Jose Chameleone, whose real name is Joseph Mayanja, is one of East Africa’s most influential musicians, with a career spanning more than 20 years. His move into broadcasting places him among regional artists expanding into media ownership.

Media and entertainment stakeholders in Burundi have welcomed the launch, describing it as a positive contribution to the country’s growing media and creative sectors.
