Nigerian Afrobeats singer Joeboy says it has become increasingly difficult for new artists to break into the mainstream music industry compared to previous years.

The singer expressed concern about the challenges facing emerging talents, noting that the industry now demands more than just good music and strong branding.

Speaking during a recent interview with Jay On-Air, Joeboy explained that artists must now build strong social media presence and public personalities to gain attention in the competitive music market.

“I genuinely feel for artists that are trying to go mainstream right now because unlike before, it takes a lot more and it now depends on your personality and all of that,” he said.

According to the singer, earlier in the industry, artists could reach mainstream success primarily through strong music, effective branding, and marketing support. However, he believes the current digital environment requires musicians to constantly remain visible and active online

“Back then, if you have great music, a great brand behind you and great marketing, the chances of you popping up were really higher. But now, it demands way more than that,” he added

Joeboy advised upcoming artists to take advantage of platforms such as TikTok and other social media channels to promote their music and reach wider audiences.
