Grace Bassey’s life has taken another beautiful turn — this time, away from film sets and military training grounds, and into a new chapter of love.
According to the original report, the former Nollywood actress, now known as Grace-Charis Bassey Effah, announced her engagement in a Facebook post on Tuesday, sharing photos with her fiancé while showing off her engagement ring.
Bassey did not reveal the identity of her partner, and she also kept details of the proposal private. But her message was full of emotion and gratitude.
She described the moment as “answered prayers,” adding that true love had made the experience feel almost unreal. The announcement quickly drew warm reactions from fans, colleagues, and well-wishers who celebrated the news with her.
For many Nollywood followers, the engagement is another major update in a life that has changed dramatically in recent years.
Formerly known to fans as Belinda Effah, Bassey stepped away from the Nigerian film industry to pursue a military career in the United States. In 2025, she made headlines after completing United States Navy boot camp and later becoming an American citizen after taking the oath of allegiance.
That decision was not sudden. Bassey has previously explained that serving in the military had been a lifelong dream, shaped partly by her upbringing at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt.
Her late father, Asido Bassey Effah, was a retired naval commander, and she has credited his influence as one of the inspirations behind her journey into military service.
Before wearing the U.S. Navy uniform, Bassey was one of Nollywood’s familiar faces. She began her acting career in the 2005 television series Shallow Waters and later gained wider attention through the reality show Next Movie Star, which helped introduce her to mainstream audiences.
Her talent also earned industry recognition. At the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards, she won Most Promising Act of the Year, a sign that Nollywood saw her as one of its rising stars.
