Falz has opened up about a frightening road attack that could have ended very differently.
According to the original report, the Nigerian rapper, actor and activist recounted how he and members of his team survived an encounter with armed bandits on the Abuja–Lokoja Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest but increasingly feared highways.
Speaking during a podcast, Falz said the attack happened while they were travelling and most people in the vehicle were asleep. A sudden loud sound woke everyone up, and within seconds, they realised it was not a tyre burst or road accident — it was gunfire.
The entertainer said they saw about five armed men standing in the middle of the road. The men wore turbans and carried AK-47 rifles, creating a scene he described as deeply terrifying.
Falz explained that the first sound they heard was a bullet hitting their vehicle. Then another shot tore through the middle of the car, narrowly missing the people inside.
The whole incident, he said, unfolded in just a few seconds. But those few seconds were enough to change the mood from sleep to panic.
After the car stopped, the gunmen surrounded them and immediately demanded money. Falz said one of the attackers kept asking where the money was, while he pleaded and told them there was none.
The bandits then searched through their bags, using daggers to cut them open and scatter clothes and personal items while looking for cash.
The rapper said the location made the situation even more frightening. They were on a lonely stretch of the Abuja–Lokoja road, surrounded by forest, with no clear escape route.
At one point, Falz heard sirens and thought help might be coming. But instead of calming down, the attackers fired more shots before eventually leaving the scene.
After the robbers fled, Falz tried to stop passing vehicles to get help. He said no one stopped, though he understood why other motorists were too scared to put themselves in danger.
His account adds a human face to Nigeria’s worsening road insecurity. The Abuja–Lokoja Expressway is a major route connecting the Federal Capital Territory to other parts of the country, but repeated attacks by armed criminals have made many travellers anxious.
For fans who know Falz as a sharp voice in Nigerian music, comedy and social commentary, this story is more than a celebrity survival tale. It is another reminder of the real fear ordinary Nigerians face on roads that should feel safe.
