A warrant of arrest has been issued for South African media personality and musician Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye after he failed to appear before the Germiston Magistrates' Court on Monday.
However, the warrant will not be enforced immediately.
The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed to Eyewitness News that the warrant was issued following Maarohanye's failure to attend court, with his absence attributed to alleged ill health. The matter was postponed to September 7, 2026, and the warrant has been held over until that date.
This means the existence of the warrant does not, at this stage, mean police are immediately seeking to arrest Maarohanye over Monday's absence.
Jub Jub Misses Germiston Court Appearance
Maarohanye had been expected back in court on August 24 as proceedings continued in a criminal case stemming from an alleged confrontation with an e-hailing driver in Edenvale in June.
His legal representatives told the court that he was ill and unable to attend.
The Citizen reported that Maarohanye had reportedly been booked off for five days after becoming ill on August 20.
The court nevertheless issued a warrant following his non-appearance.

What Charges Is Jub Jub Facing?
According to the NPA's clarification reported by EWN in June, Maarohanye faces two charges: discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing an object likely to lead another person to believe that it is a firearm.

The case originates from an alleged confrontation with an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.
Police allege that the driver had transported a female passenger to a residence before being confronted by Maarohanye.
Maarohanye has disputed the allegations.
He was previously released on R5,000 bail after approaching the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg. EWN reported at the time that the High Court ordered his release after an urgent application.
NPA Says State Is Ready to Proceed
Despite Monday's postponement, prosecutors say they are prepared to continue with the case.

The NPA told EWN that the State is ready to proceed with the prosecution and remains committed to handling the matter fairly and according to the law.
Maarohanye's next scheduled appearance is September 7, 2026.
For now, the key distinction is that while a warrant of arrest has been issued, it has been held over until the next court date and is not being immediately enforced.
The September appearance will therefore be the next major development in the case.
