Rwandan singer Bruce Melodie has called on the government to increase investment in the music industry, saying it has strong potential to generate revenue and attract tourists if properly supported.
Speaking during an interview on IGIHE Sports Club, the award-winning artist said music should be treated as a strategic sector, similar to tourism, with structured investment and policy backing.
Bruce Melodie noted that music already generates income and contributes to Rwanda’s global image, but added that greater support could significantly expand its economic impact. He argued that artists should be empowered in the same way other tourism-related sectors are financed.
The singer also reflected on his interactions with President Paul Kagame, saying he deeply respects the Head of State but often feels nervous when meeting him, which has sometimes prevented him from sharing ideas.
During end-of-year celebrations in 2025, President Kagame publicly referenced Bruce Melodie’s song Bado, a moment the artist described as meaningful recognition for Rwanda’s music industry.
Bruce Melodie further pointed to Nigeria as an example of how music can become a major national export, stating that Rwanda could benefit from a similar approach if music is prioritized at the policy level.
The artist is currently enjoying regional success with Pom Pom, a collaboration with Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz and Nigeria’s Brown Joel.
