What Will the Community Liaison Officer Do?
The Community Liaison Officer will work closely with embassy management to support the wellbeing of staff and families based at the British Embassy.
A major part of the job involves helping UK-based staff and their families adjust to life in Kinshasa, including providing information about schools, childcare, employment opportunities for spouses and partners, training, recreational facilities and other aspects of living in the city.
The officer will also welcome newly arriving staff and families, help organise orientation and familiarisation activities and provide information when staff face practical or welfare-related difficulties.
Another responsibility is representing staff and family concerns to embassy management and participating in relevant management, housing, contingency-planning and evacuation discussions.
The successful candidate will also help maintain embassy information resources, community communications and welcome materials.
The vacancy says the Community Liaison Officer may additionally be asked to provide administrative support to senior embassy officials, including the Ambassador, Development Director or Deputy Head of Mission, such as organising meetings and managing diaries.
Who Can Apply?
The vacancy does not specify a narrowly defined university degree as an essential requirement.
Instead, the British Embassy is looking for candidates who can demonstrate strong people, communication and organisational skills.
Essential requirements include being:
A good listener and strong communicator
Well organised
Able to handle confidential and sensitive information discreetly
Strong in interpersonal communication
Flexible and proactive
Able to use Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word, or willing to improve those skills
The embassy lists previous Community Liaison Officer experience or experience with expatriate embassy life as desirable rather than essential.
Knowledge of Kinshasa — including places to shop, eat, socialise and access services — is also considered an advantage.
Experience in customer-facing positions or work involving staff welfare would additionally strengthen an application.
Can Congolese Candidates Apply?
Yes.
The vacancy is a locally recruited position at the British Embassy in Kinshasa. Candidates must be legally able to work and reside in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or demonstrate that they are eligible to obtain the appropriate work or residence permit.
This means qualified Congolese applicants can apply.
Candidates who require a permit should be aware that the successful applicant is responsible for obtaining the necessary authorisation, paying related permit fees and covering any relocation costs.
TRENDING NOW
Locally recruited employees will be employed under the embassy's terms and conditions in accordance with DRC employment law.
Behaviours the Embassy Will Assess
Applicants will be assessed against several UK Civil Service behaviours:
Changing and Improving
Communicating and Influencing
Managing a Quality Service
Working Together
Candidates should therefore prepare clear examples from their previous employment, education, volunteering or other professional experiences showing how they have demonstrated these abilities.
How to Apply for the British Embassy Kinshasa Job
Applications must be submitted online through the official FCDO recruitment platform operated by Oleeo/Tal.net.
Applicants should visit the official British Embassy Community Liaison Officer vacancy page and complete the application through the recruitment system.
The FCDO warns that applications submitted through other websites will not be received by the British Government, even when the vacancy has been advertised by a third-party jobs website.
Applicants should therefore make sure their final application is submitted through the official British Government recruitment platform.
Important Warning About AI-Written Applications
The British Embassy has also issued specific guidance concerning the use of artificial intelligence during applications.
Candidates may use AI for limited tasks such as checking formatting or keyword relevance, but the embassy says the main content of the application — particularly personal experiences and answers to behaviour or skills questions — must genuinely reflect the applicant's own professional history.
Plagiarism can result in immediate disqualification.
Applicants should therefore avoid submitting generic AI-generated answers and instead explain genuine examples from their own experience.
British Embassy Says Recruitment Is Free
Candidates do not need to pay any application or recruitment fee.
The embassy explicitly states that it will never request payment to apply for a job.
Applicants should be cautious of individuals claiming they can secure the position in exchange for money and should avoid unofficial WhatsApp, Telegram or social-media recruitment offers requesting payment.
What Happens After Applying?
Successful candidates will be subject to reference checks and security clearance before appointment.
Candidates considered appointable but not selected for this particular vacancy may also be placed on a reserve list for six months. If a similar role becomes available during that period, another candidate from the list could potentially receive an offer.
Applicants are also advised to regularly log into their recruitment account to monitor updates on their application.
