The Accra Circuit Court has granted GHC50,000 bail to musician Wanlov the Kubolor, known privately as Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu, in a case involving an alleged fraud.
Wanlov appeared before the court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to a charge of defrauding by false pretence, contrary to Section 131(1) of Act 29. The court, presided over by His Honour Kwabena Kodua Obiri Yeboah, ordered that the bail be secured with one surety.
According to court documents, the case stems from an alleged US$4,500 payment made by Jemima Azizaa Abotsigah between April and May 2025. Prosecutors say the amount was part payment for the production of a music video that was not completed.
Chief Inspector Belinda Asante told the court that the complainant had agreed with the accused on a total production fee of US$10,000 and made an advance payment. Police allege that the project was not executed and that attempts by the complainant to retrieve the funds were unsuccessful, leading to a formal complaint.
During investigations, Wanlov reportedly admitted receiving the money but stated that it was given as assistance rather than payment for a music video. He was arrested on October 28, 2025.
The case has been adjourned to January 29, 2025, for continuation.
