- DRC Welcomes UN Report on Rwandan Aggression, Urges Action
DRC welcomes UN report confirming Rwandan aggression, calls for stronger global action against M23 crimes in North and South Kivu. Kinshasa, 07 September 2025 – The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has welcomed the findings of the United Nations Human Rights Mission of Inquiry on the situation in North Kivu and South Kivu. The report, covering January to July 2025, confirms with evidence that the crisis in eastern DRC is not just a local rebellion but an international armed conflict, marked by the confirmed presence of Rwandan troops on Congolese soil. This recognition establishes that the DRC is a victim of foreign state aggression. The report also highlights serious crimes committed by M23 and their Rwandan backers, including: Massacres of civilians Forced displacement Sexual violence Recruitment of children Attacks on hospitals, schools, and other vital civilian infrastructure Some of these massacres, based on ethnic targeting, are described under international law as possible acts of genocide. On Allegations Against FARDC The Government noted that the report was shared 72 hours before publication, allowing time for comments. Clarifications were submitted, stressing that there is no command link or political alliance between the Congolese army (FARDC) and the FDLR. Instead, FARDC is a republican army, fully committed to the Constitution, international humanitarian law, and human rights law. Strict presidential orders prohibit collusion, and any violations are met with judicial and disciplinary measures. ADVERTISEMENT Congo’s Position The Government rejected attempts to equate the national army with subversive groups backed by a neighboring state. It stressed that Rwanda’s aggression is driven by terror, mass crimes, and the illegal exploitation of Congo’s natural resources. The DRC remains open to serious examination of any documented allegations against its forces, within existing mechanisms, and is ready to cooperate with impartial and credible international bodies, including independent inquiries. In June 1974, an employee from the Zwickau car factory requested three weeks off from his job. Granted unpaid leave, Jurgen Croy, a goalkeeper, used his bonus to afford the time off. This bonus was not for his long shifts manufacturing Trabant 601 cars but for helping East Germany qualify for their first major football competition. Croy, who expected to return to work on Friday, June 24, found himself extending his leave. Against all odds, East Germany advanced to the knockout phase of the FIFA World Cup™, thanks to one of the greatest upsets in history. Despite West Germany's UEFA EURO 1972 final victory, top Ballon d'Or finishers, and home advantage, East Germany triumphed with Croy's stellar performance and Jurgen Sparwasser's 77th-minute strike against Sepp Maier. Reflecting on the victory, Sparwasser said, "If one day my gravestone simply says 'Hamburg 74,' everybody will still know who is lying below." West Germany's Gerd Muller recalled, "All hell broke loose in our training camp when we lost. Helmut Schon was furious, and we were up till the early hours trying to figure out how we had lost." Consequently, East Germany won Group 1 and faced a tougher second-round pool with Argentina, Brazil, and the Netherlands. Croy had to request an additional 10 days off work, which he wouldn't need any more of. Upon his return to the Sachsenring Automobilwerke factory, Croy was met with a hero's reception, two days after his team's incredible achievement. - DRC calls tribunal after 17,015 violations report on Goma, Bukavu
DRC says a report documents 17,015 violations in Goma and Bukavu, backing calls for a tribunal, more judges and transitional justice. DRC officials say a newly presented report documenting alleged human rights violations in Goma and Bukavu will be used to push for new accountability and justice measures, including a proposed international tribunal as cited by 7sur7 . The report, presented at the close of a workshop in Kinshasa, cites 17,015 cases in the two eastern cities, including allegations of killings, abductions, and torture or other inhuman treatment. The document was compiled by experts from sector ministries, civil society and NGOs, according to the organisers. The documented violations were committed by the M23/AFC , according to the findings shared at the event. Human Rights Minister Samuel Mbemba said recommendations include advocating for an international criminal tribunal for crimes committed in the DRC, strengthening defence and security capacity, increasing the number of magistrates, and establishing transitional justice mechanisms. Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka said she would take the recommendations “to the highest level,” according to organisers. The announcement lands amid heightened international scrutiny of abuses in North and South Kivu. The UN Human Rights Office has previously warned that serious violations in the region by multiple parties may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Authorities also linked the reported violations to displacement pressures. Recent reporting has placed overall displacement in the DRC at more than 7 million, amid recurring conflict and instability in the east. Pullman Kinshasa Grand Hotel isn’t just another upscale address it’s an award-winning design statement. ChaCha perches on the 9th floor of Central Africa’s first Art Deco tower (1946), and it comes with two terraces one facing the city grid, the other throwing you straight at the river. Sunset sails and docked evenings serve Congo‑wide skies and Brazzaville twinkles. 2025 programming includes Thursday salsa‑and‑rumba sundowners and a two‑for‑one cocktail hour. Some drinks come with umbrellas; this one comes with a view. Majestic River’s signature cocktail — bright, boozy, and perfectly posed against the Congo sums up Kinshasa’s sundowner spirit. It’s not about precision mixology here; it’s about rhythm, river breeze, and the feeling that time just slowed down. Practical: check dates for the Sunday buffet (often around USD $50 / ≈ CDF 150,000 in 2025). By‑the‑glass cocktails hover around USD $8–10 / ≈ CDF 24,000–30,000 (2025 approx.). Local tip: stand on the up‑river edge at golden hour; you’ll get the widest Pool Malebo sweep. Their 2025 feed puts it simply: “1 cocktail acheté = 1 cocktail offert.” Facebook mirror via Foodyas, 2025 . 6) IKOS Restaurant & Lounge Bar, Matrix Tower Rooftop‑ish, Mediterranean‑leaning, and perfectly placed: IKOS lives high in Matrix Tower itself a complex “overlooking the Congo River” so order that spritz and let Gombe’s lights do their thing. It’s one of 2025’s talk‑about spots for skyline dining with a real sense of occasion. Trending Now US Democrats' Rwanda Record: Peaceful Change and Congo Sovereignty . Tip: request a window‑side banquette; the river line is clearest after 7 pm when the haze lifts . 7) Eloge Towers Rooftop Patio Bar Eloge is residential‑luxury, but the rooftop’s patio bar when accessible for residents’ guests or private events serves knockout panoramas: downtown Kin, the Congo River, Brazzaville, and an infinity‑edge pool straight out of Singapore. It’s the city’s most cinematic “if‑you‑know‑someone” sky fix. Practical: access is typically limited to residents/guests or for booked events ask politely; sometimes it works. When you do get in, expect cocktails around USD $15–18 / ≈ CDF 45,000–54,000 (2025 approx.). Local tip: bring a light layer the rooftop breeze can be surprisingly cool after 21:00 . 8) Executive Lounge, 22nd floor, Fleuve Congo Hotel High above the diplomatic quarter, the Fleuve’s 22nd‑floor lounge is a hushed, clubby vantage for river‑watching with a side of canapés. It’s an executive‑access space, but the page confirms the venue and floor; set inside a riverfront tower, so the Congo views are a given. Practical: Access is for eligible room categories or through meeting/event bookings; call ahead to confirm. Drinks trend hotel‑premium: approx. USD $12–16 / ≈ CDF 36,000–48,000 (2025 approx.). Tip: late afternoon is best haze drops, ships move, and the river turns copper. Before you go: quick price math and local smarts Kin’s rooftop drinks skew hotel‑led; plan for USD $10–18 / ≈ CDF 30,000–54,000 for cocktails, a touch less for beers. Pro tip: Thursday is the sleeper night the city is out, but it’s not manic; watch for 2025 promos like Majestic’s 2‑for‑1 sundowners, or creative evenings at ChaCha that sneak in a free first drink. - Chris Hemsworth explains why he shared Alzheimer’s risk
Chris Hemsworth says he struggled before revealing his genetic Alzheimer’s risk, fearing how the disclosure might affect his career. According to Geo News , actor Chris Hemsworth has explained why he chose to publicly disclose that he carries a genetic predisposition linked to Alzheimer’s disease , describing the decision as deeply personal and professionally uncertain. Speaking to The Guardian during promotion for his upcoming film Crime 101 , the Marvel star said he debated whether being open about his health risk could alter how audiences perceive him, particularly given his long-standing action-hero image. Hemsworth revealed in 2022 that he carries two copies of the APOE4 gene, which is associated with an increased statistical risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. He first shared the information during an episode of his Disney+ series Limitless , while emphasizing at the time that the gene does not guarantee a diagnosis. The issue has taken on added significance for the actor due to his family history. His grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and Hemsworth confirmed last year that his father is currently living with the condition. He said those experiences have influenced both his personal outlook and professional choices, leading him to slow down his workload and prioritize projects with greater personal meaning. Hemsworth noted that earlier in his career, financial considerations often played a larger role in accepting roles. That shift was reflected in his 2025 documentary A Road Trip to Remember , which focused on his father’s diagnosis. Hemsworth described the film as an emotional project intended to honor his father and preserve memories affected by the disease. In a recent discussion with Athletics Weekly, Usain Bolt, the acclaimed fastest man in history, opened up about the advice he continually receives from his coach, Glen Mills, regarding his retirement decision. Mills frequently suggests that Bolt, who concluded his illustrious career in 2017 following the World Championships in London, might have retired prematurely. He points to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce's successful return to track after maternity leave as a model Bolt could have emulated. "When I watch the girls compete like Shelly-Ann, I still get nervous. And my coach always says if Shelly-Ann could be doing this, then you could be, so I always laugh about that," Bolt shared, reflecting on his coach's perspective. Bolt, now 37, retired after securing a bronze medal in the 100m event at the 2017 World Championships, marking his final podium appearance and his first major defeat since 2007. The decision to retire, as Mills often remarks, could have been reconsidered, especially in light of Fraser-Pryce's impressive comeback post-parenthood at the same age. Despite stepping away from the competitive arena, Bolt admits to missing the unique adrenaline rush and the enthusiastic support from fans during events. "It's the crowd. The first entry into the stadium, they see you and scream. That first trial when you set your blocks, the energy picks up. So for me, It's just the adrenaline and the vibes, the energy. So that's something that I miss," he conveyed, reminiscing about the electric atmosphere of the stadium. On the other hand, Fraser-Pryce, a five-time world champion with a career spanning over fifteen years, has declared her intention to retire following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. ADVERTISEMENT "It's the crowd. In an intimate revelation to Essence magazine, she cited her family's needs as the primary reason for her decision. “My son needs me. My husband and I have been together since before I won in 2008. He has sacrificed for me. We’re a partnership, a team. I think I now owe it to them to do something else,” Fraser-Pryce stated, highlighting her commitment to her family post-retirement. - Museveni Warns Against Arsenal fan Hype Despite Poverty Struggles
Museveni says he declined an Arsenal title celebration invite, urging leaders to focus on poverty and accountability. President Yoweri Museveni says he rejected an invitation to join celebrations for Arsenal’s Premier League title victory, using the moment to urge Ugandan leaders to focus on poverty reduction and household incomes, according to Pulse Uganda. Speaking during the opening of Uganda’s 12th Parliament on Monday, May 25, 2026, Museveni said some associates had invited him to celebrate Arsenal’s first league title in 22 years. He said he declined, arguing that public leaders should not be distracted from domestic economic priorities. Arsenal were confirmed as 2025/26 Premier League champions after Manchester City failed to close the gap, ending the club’s long wait for another league title under manager Mikel Arteta. The victory triggered major celebrations among Arsenal supporters in Uganda, where the club has one of the country’s most visible Premier League fan bases. Reports said fans held processions, watch parties and street celebrations in several towns, reflecting the strong pull of English football across the country. Museveni said leaders should instead prioritise accountability and programmes aimed at improving household income, asking why officials would celebrate European football clubs while many citizens still lacked reliable income. The remarks placed Arsenal’s title celebrations inside a wider political message: foreign football may command huge public attention in Uganda, but Museveni said government work should remain focused on poverty, service delivery and economic mobilisation. - Rwanda warns Mozambique mission could end as sanctions tensions grow
Rwanda warns it could withdraw troops from Mozambique if long-term funding for its Cabo Delgado counter-terror mission is not secured. Rwanda has warned it could withdraw its military forces from northern Mozambique if long-term international funding for the mission is not secured, raising questions about the future of counter-terrorism operations in Cabo Delgado province. The warning was issued by Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe , who said on social media platform X that Rwanda would withdraw its troops if sustainable financing is not guaranteed for the deployment. “It’s not that Rwanda could withdraw, it’s that Rwanda WILL withdraw its troops from Mozambique if sustainable funding is not secured for its counter-terrorism operations in Cabo Delgado,” the minister wrote. The statement followed reports suggesting that European Union support through the European Peace Facility could expire in May without renewal. The EU has contributed about €20 million to support Rwanda’s military deployment. However, Kigali says the real cost of the operation is significantly higher. Government spokesperson Yolande Makolo stated that EU funding represents only a small share of the expenses, arguing that Rwanda’s total costs are at least ten times greater. Rwandan troops were first deployed to Mozambique in July 2021 at the request of the Mozambican government to help combat insurgent groups linked to the Islamic State in Cabo Delgado. The initial deployment included around 1,000 soldiers and police officers. According to statements by President Paul Kagame, the force later expanded to roughly 2,000 personnel. Rwandan officials say the intervention helped restore stability in parts of the province, allowing displaced civilians to return home, schools to reopen and economic activity to resume. Authorities also say the security improvements helped major liquefied natural gas projects restart in the region. Large energy investments in Cabo Delgado include projects led by the French company TotalEnergies and the U.S. firm ExxonMobil, with combined investments estimated at about $50 billion. Some analysts and opposition figures argue the mission also strengthens Rwanda’s role as a regional security partner and expands its diplomatic influence with Western governments. ADVERTISEMENT The funding warning comes amid growing diplomatic tension between Rwanda and several Western partners over the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo . Earlier in March, the United States imposed sanctions on Rwanda’s Defence Forces and four senior generals accused of supporting the M23 rebel group operating in eastern DRC . The Rwandan government has repeatedly denied these accusations, saying its actions are focused on protecting national security. Speaking to diplomats in Kigali, President Kagame defended Rwanda’s security posture and said every country has the responsibility to protect its borders and citizens. Meanwhile, the tensions appear to be extending beyond the security sphere. Rwanda’s APR Basketball Club, owned by the country’s military, recently withdrew from the upcoming season of the Basketball Africa League, a competition supported by the NBA. - Rwanda Court Upholds Detention of Djihad and Co-Accused
A Rwandan court has ruled that Djihad and three co-accused remain in pretrial detention over leaked Yampano videos. The Nyarugenge High Council has upheld the continued pretrial detention of Uzabakiriho Cyprien, popularly known as Djihad, and three co-accused linked to the distribution of explicit videos involving Rwandan artist Yampano. The ruling was delivered on January 5, 2026, following an appeal hearing in which the defendants challenged an earlier decision by the Kicukiro Primary Court that ordered their temporary detention. In its judgment, the High Council found that the grounds raised by Djihad lacked legal merit and confirmed that the initial court’s reasoning met the required legal threshold. The court also ruled that the arguments presented by Ishimwe Patrick, known as Pazzo Man, did not justify provisional release. Judges further noted that there were substantial reasons to suspect Ishimwe François Xavier of involvement in the commercial distribution of pornographic material, reinforcing the legality of his continued detention. The court likewise dismissed the appeal submitted by Kwizera Nestor, also known as Pappy Nesta, citing insufficient grounds. The four men are accused of disseminating sexually explicit videos showing Yampano and his partner. All had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the Kicukiro court’s decision, arguing that certain elements were overlooked during the initial proceedings. Another suspect in the same case, Kalisa John, commonly known as K. John, was earlier granted provisional release and will continue to face trial while out of custody. The case remains under judicial review as investigations continue. - Kongo-Central prison moves to contain deadly cholera outbreak
DRC authorities suspend new prison admissions in Mbanza-Ngungu after a cholera outbreak left 11 dead and 74 cases reported. Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have announced emergency measures at Mbanza-Ngungu prison after a cholera outbreak reportedly left 11 inmates dead and 74 others infected in Kongo-Central province. Justice Minister Guillaume Ngefa said new admissions had been temporarily suspended as officials try to contain the outbreak inside the facility as cited by Actualite.cd . According to the minister, the health emergency was declared on March 27, with the provisional toll recorded among roughly 800 detainees. He said the government had moved to limit further transmission while protecting both prisoners and prison staff. Similar emergency restrictions were also used earlier this year during a cholera outbreak at Kinshasa’s Makala prison , where authorities likewise halted new admissions to curb infections. Ngefa said coordination began immediately with the health ministry once the first cases appeared. A cholera treatment centre was set up inside the prison, extra beds were deployed, severe cases were transferred to specialised facilities, and medical teams were assigned to provide treatment, vaccination and prevention measures, according to the official account. The response also includes sanitation, disinfection and water-quality controls, steps that take on added urgency in Mbanza-Ngungu, where concerns over unsafe water consumption were raised earlier this month. The prison outbreak comes against the backdrop of a wider cholera crisis in DR Congo, which UNICEF said had become the country’s worst outbreak in 25 years by late 2025. The government says it remains fully mobilised and has framed the measures as part of its duty to protect the health and dignity of people in detention while reinforcing prevention inside prison facilities.
