Young Jonn is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer who became widely recognised twice. First, his “Wicked Producer” tag announced major Nigerian pop records of the 2010s. Then he stepped from behind the console and built a public identity through “Dada,” “Xtra Cool,” Jiggy Forever and Blue Disco.
Born John Saviours Udomboso in Ibadan, he developed his musical instincts in church before becoming a teenage producer and moving to Lagos. His career now joins technical beat-making, soft melodic vocals and collaborations across African pop.
Who is Young Jonn? Young Jonn is a Nigerian Afropop singer, songwriter and award-winning producer born in Ibadan in 1995. After shaping major hits for artists including Olamide and Kizz Daniel, he became a successful front-facing performer through “Dada,” “Xtra Cool,” Jiggy Forever and Blue Disco.
The second breakthrough: from producer tag to frontman
Young Jonn’s defining turning point did not introduce him to the music industry; it changed where audiences saw him. By the time he signed with Chocolate City and released “Dada” in 2022, he had already spent years making records for other performers. The single placed his own voice at the centre of a bright, romantic Afropop production, while a remix with Davido expanded its reach.
That move mattered because studio authority does not automatically become stage presence. “Dada” opened the door, but “Xtra Cool” made the transition feel sustainable. Its restrained delivery and romantic tension showed that Young Jonn could write for his own vocal character.
The change is now visible across Young Jonn’s XTRAfrica songs page, where his catalogue is presented under his own name rather than only through production credits. His story is therefore not a simple rise from obscurity. It is the rarer account of an established creative worker accepting beginner status again in public.
Before fame: church instruments and Ibadan beginnings
John Saviours Udomboso was born on 16 February 1995 in Ibadan, Oyo State. His label’s official Young Jonn profile confirms his full name, birth date and early years in the city. He is 31 years old as of 30 July 2026.
His childhood placed music, faith and education in the same household. In a detailed Tirade World interview, he said that his father and mother were pastors and that his mother also ran a school. Church gave him regular access to drums and keyboard, while school exposed him to football, basketball, dance and performance.
