Vyroota a Ugandan singer
Vyroota is a Ugandan singer and songwriter whose soft, emotional delivery has made him one of the recognisable young voices in Kampala’s contemporary urban music. Born Musigazi Abdulaziz in Kireka, Wakiso District, he moved from school-age recording attempts to national attention through songs including “Ndi Bulungi,” “Risk,” “Twafuna,” “Maria” and “Kunsi.”
He shares career updates through his official X account, while his music blends Afrobeat, R&B, dancehall and reggae-pop around romance, hardship and everyday aspiration. His 2024 Zzina Award confirmed that the rise was more than online excitement: Uganda’s radio audience had begun to recognise a distinct new performer.
Who is Vyroota? Vyroota is Ugandan singer Musigazi Abdulaziz, born in Kireka on 9 May 2003. He broke through with the emotional song “Ndi Bulungi,” expanded his audience through “Risk” and collaborations, and won Best Contemporary Urban Artist at the 2024 Galaxy FM Zzina Awards.
“Ndi Bulungi” and Vyroota’s Breakthrough
Vyroota’s defining early moment was not built around a large-budget video or a major label campaign. “Ndi Bulungi” travelled through its melody, lyrics and the vulnerability of his voice. A Pulse Uganda profile identifies it as his breakthrough after his first notable song, “Love Me Too,” arrived in 2021. The same report noted that an unofficial lyrics upload had accumulated a substantial YouTube audience even though the song had no conventional official video.
That unusual route matters. “Ndi Bulungi” introduced a singer whose strength was intimacy rather than spectacle. Vyroota could stretch a romantic phrase, allow strain into the vocal and make a simple confession feel personal. The song also carried the weight of the conditions from which it emerged. In a two-part interview about his childhood, he described how closely poverty shaped life with his mother before the record changed his circumstances.
“We were so poor that I shared the same bed with my mother until singing ‘Ndibulungi.’”
The statement, preserved in the original Vyroota interview, gives the breakthrough a human scale. Success did not instantly erase every difficulty, but the song created movement: more studio access, a wider audience and a public identity that listeners could attach to the voice.
