Galaxy FM/TV Chief Executive Officer Innocent Nahabwe has disclosed that musician and politician Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, once turned down an opportunity to own shares in the Ugandan radio station.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Nahabwe said the offer was made several years ago when Galaxy FM was still in its formative stage. He recalled meeting Bobi Wine about five or six years earlier during a birthday celebration held at Club Amnesia, where Bobi Wine jokingly mentioned that he should have been one of the shareholders.
Nahabwe explained that the comment reminded him of a previous discussion they had held at Serena Hotel before Galaxy FM officially launched. At the time, he had presented the broadcaster’s business idea to Bobi Wine and proposed giving him a 10% stake.
According to Nahabwe, Bobi Wine declined the offer because the project was still new and its success was uncertain. He reportedly felt unsure about the station’s potential growth.
Years later, during another meeting at Club Amnesia, Nahabwe said he reminded Bobi Wine of the opportunity he had turned down, especially now that Galaxy FM has grown into one of Uganda’s prominent and widely followed radio stations.
