On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, inside the symbolic tent of the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN), a powerful message echoed across the student community. Before an audience passionately devoted to the Congolese cause, young people and students gathered to learn about the ongoing pacification process being led under the active diplomacy of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.

To help Congolese youth understand the stakes of the diplomatic initiatives launched by the government, Minister of Communication Patrick Muyaya met with students at UNIKIN. His goal: to guide the younger generation in owning and communicating the Congolese narrative for lasting peace.

When asked about the gains of the Washington process led by the Trump administration, Minister Muyaya emphasized that it was thanks to President Tshisekedi’s leadership that Rwanda was forced to officially recognize its 31-year military presence in eastern Congo. This resulted in the Washington Agreement, which clearly marks a historic turning point.

The main objective we want to achieve is peace,” Minister Muyaya stated. “And in the Washington Agreement, we made our red lines prevail: respect for our territorial integrity, sovereignty over our resources, and the refusal of forced assimilation.”

He went further to explain the ongoing negotiations between the DRC and Rwanda, as well as the talks with the AFC/M23 rebels. Muyaya encouraged students to become ambassadors of peace and national unity, urging them to read the official documents carefully and avoid manipulation by foreign propaganda.

Minister Muyaya didn’t hold back in condemning the lies propagated by the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF). He exposed Rwanda’s false narrative that the DRC is discriminating against the Tutsi community, when in fact, Rwanda is hiding behind victimhood to justify its aggression.

He made a key point: “We must love the Banyamulenge, because they are Congolese and also victims of Rwandan aggression, just like every other Congolese citizen.

This reflects President Tshisekedi’s vision of national inclusion and unity. Promoting ethnic division, Muyaya warned, only serves the enemy.

During the same forum, Muhéto Muhizi, President of the youth group “Abanyemera” of Masisi and a respected human rights activist, made a passionate appeal:

To completely end this ethnic-political confusion, we must abandon the term ‘Tutsi.’ It is a tribal label not rooted in our Congolese identity. The real Congolese groups are the Banyemera and Banyamulenge, who have their own unique language, culture, and heritage that Rwanda does not share.”

Muhizi called for a cultural awakening that would allow Congolese to clearly distinguish between native victims and foreign aggressors, promoting peace without ethnic confusion.

Summary:

This event at UNIKIN highlighted a new spirit of awareness among Congolese youth, led by President Tshisekedi’s bold diplomacy and Minister Muyaya’s outreach. The future of Congo’s peace process lies in the hands of its informed youth, united around truth, sovereignty, and a refusal to let Rwanda’s false narratives define the conflict.
