Controversial media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has sparked fresh debate after questioning the impact of religion on Nigeria’s development.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Freeze argued that despite Nigeria’s strong religious culture, there is little evidence of corresponding progress in areas such as prosperity, social welfare, and living standards.
He stated that religion should be evaluated based on measurable outcomes rather than belief alone.
“My problem with religion is it has no results. Where is the prosperity? Where is the love?” he said, pointing to what he described as a disconnect between widespread faith and national realities.
Freeze compared Nigeria with Japan, noting that the Asian country, which he described as less religious, has achieved significant economic and social development.
He also raised concerns about Nigeria’s life expectancy, stating that the country continues to face poor health outcomes despite its high level of religiosity.
In addition, he criticised what he described as misplaced priorities, arguing that Nigerians contribute more financially to religious institutions than to civic responsibilities such as taxation.
“We pay more tithes than taxes in this country, yet our prayers and sacrifices don’t seem to reflect on the condition of our nation,” he said.
His comments are expected to reignite discussions around the relationship between religion, governance, and development in Nigeria, where faith remains a central part of daily life.
