Africa | Human Rights Riot of Tutsi Congolese and Banyamulenge Followed by Killings That Happened on Sunday Alphonse Sep 4, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link The Minister of Justice in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mutamba, has confirmed the killings that occurred in Goma City this Monday, following information received from the DRC’s intelligence services. The report indicated a gathering of M23/AFC partisans. He stated, "There are many spies operating under the guise of boda boda drivers, bicycle riders, and others, who meet under the pretext of praying. This is not the first time the DRC government has accused the Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) of supporting M23/AFC. The government alleges a conspiracy and claims that Rwanda is allying with enemies who threaten the DRC." Goma City has revealed captives, purported to be RDF soldiers, who were captured on the battlefield during a rapid search operation on Saturday afternoon. Intelligence pointed fingers at them after they were found gathering at Hotel 2020 in Majengo, Goma. The Minister added that leaked information suggests that RDF/M23 is aiming to conquer DRC territory, with the captives identified as young soldiers taken from the frontline. A testimony from one of the captured soldiers, whose identity has not been disclosed for security reasons, revealed: "I am Rwandan, 22 years old, from Kayonza. I joined the RDF in 2020, and when the war in eastern Congo erupted, we were deployed. My comrades and I were captured, and our families have not been informed of our whereabouts." After the DRC forces exposed the captives, the Rwandan government, led by President Paul Kagame, denied deploying any soldiers in eastern Congo. Rwanda has consistently stated that the issues in the DRC are Congolese matters and should be resolved by the Congolese themselves. The Mayor of Goma added that M23/AFC and their allies have infiltrated the city with young taxi drivers and motorcycle riders, who report daily at 16:00 GMT to Village Urugwiro with information on the situation in the city. This saga unfolds as President Kagame arrives in Indonesia, seemingly turning a blind eye to the young Rwandan soldiers being killed, allegedly in pursuit of his own global ambitions. The Minister of Justice further commented that in the DRC, the justice system, as an executive branch, is currently in a state of disrepair. As for the question of whether mining activities in the DRC remain valid and operational, President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi has been attending a summit where African and Chinese leaders are gathered to discuss such matters. - CRIMES AGAINST HUTUS: A NEGLECTED GENOCIDE BY RPA | Xtrafricahttps://static.wixstatic.com/media/67cd72_103d7fa1a0424b3e836bf2ab09e423d6~mv2.webp
Africa Hutus Genocide CRIMES AGAINST HUTUS: A NEGLECTED GENOCIDE BY RPA Mbeki edmond Oct 1, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Every year, October 1st: A Hutu Genocide Memorial Day In the history of Rwanda, the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 should be given special attention. However, little researched, and often deliberately overlooked, are allegations of extreme violence against Hutus by the National Patriotic Army (RPA), led by Paul Kagame, during and after the genocide. This article serves as the summary of the prosecutor, showing the evidence of the crimes committed by the RPA against the Hutus, aiming to highlight the dark, illegal part of the history of Rwanda. Starting in October 1990, when the RPF launched an attack in Rwanda, news began to appear about attacks on Hutu civilians, especially in the northern regions of Rwanda. As RPF forces advanced, Hutu civilians were often killed on purpose or taken to refugee camps where they endured violence. visit ( Hutu Genocide ) ( Foreign Policy Journal ). At least 553 people were killed in Kintobo secteur, 127 in Gatovu, 120 in Rukoma, and 114 in Runigi. Around the same time, 423 people in Nyamutera commune were also killed, with 123 of them burned alive in houses deliberately set on fire Killings in Rwanda: Inside Rwanda, the RPA has been involved in the killing of Hutu, not only soldiers but also civilians, in retaliation or to eliminate opposition. This included cases where Hutu civilians were tricked into gathering under the pretense of safety or going home, only to be killed. Massacre in the Congo (DRC): A critical moment in the First Congo War occurred in 1996, when the RPF pursued Hutu refugees in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Attacks on refugee camps have killed thousands of people, including incidents such as massacres in the South Kivu region, where refugees were systematically killed. Hutu refugees systematically killed in democratic republic of Congo International Opinion and Law: Although the international community has focused on the genocide against the Tutsi, reports such as the UN and various human rights organizations have shown that the crimes against the Hutus committed by the RPA may meet the legal definition of genocide or at least war crimes and crimes against humanity. However, legal action against these crimes has been limited, as the RPA leadership, including Kagame, enjoys relative immunity. ( Wikipedia ) The RPF's operations in both Rwanda and the DRC have been characterized by the use of brutal methods, including mass killings with hammers and steel weapons, forced arrests, and the deliberate destruction of evidence, such as burning corpses. The reports of these crimes, as well as those of Nyakinama, where the RPF forces killed about 8000 civilians in a cave, show the nature of these attacks.( Hutu Genocide ) Evidence and witness accounts Some human rights groups and researchers, such as Judi Rever in Praise of Blood, have documented the atrocities committed against the Hutu people. These crimes were rarely prosecuted, and accusations against the RPF were often met with pressure, including the arrest and disappearance of Hutus who criticize Kagame's regime. read ( SpringerLink ) United Nations Report: These documents reveal specific instances in which RPA forces have systematically killed Hutu refugees and civilians, often with the aim of exterminating them as a group, not as military combatants. Testimony of witnesses: From survivors and former RPA soldiers, there are stories that they were ordered to kill Hutus, explaining how the violence based on the genocide program was directed against Hutus. Academic and Investigative Journalism: as we mentioned above, Judi Rever's "In Praise of Blood" collection of in-depth research, interviews, and archival materials shows that the RPA's violence against the Hutus was systematically orchestrated .( SpringerLink ) The Need for Accountability What is said in Rwanda after 1994 is dominated by the story of the Tutsis suffering and enduring, which is undoubtedly and sad in the history of Rwanda. However, this article focuses on the intentional or deliberate crimes committed by the RPA. In order to reconcile with real justice in Rwanda, these crimes must be acknowledged, investigated, and those responsible held accountable. An international community of remembrance and justice only serves to heal the wounds of a country that needs healing. This article calls for a broader review of Rwanda's history, where all victims, regardless of race, are recognized, and all perpetrators, regardless of their status, are brought to justice. This article is not intended to reduce the suffering of the Tutsi victims but to show the conflict and justice that is difficult, striving for a full understanding of Rwanda's terrible history. Africa | Foreign Relations Libyan Nationals Arrested at South African ‘Military Camp’ to Be Deported Ayize claire Aug 15, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Libyan Nationals Arrested South African prosecutors have dropped charges against 95 Libyan nationals who were apprehended on suspicion of undergoing illegal military training in Mpumalanga. The charges were withdrawn due to insufficient evidence, according to Monica Nyuswa, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). While the group will not face criminal prosecution for military activities, they have been charged with violating South Africa's immigration laws. The Department of Home Affairs confirmed that the men will be deported to Libya, with a statement promising that "the deportations will be conducted swiftly." Initial Arrest and Allegations The arrests occurred in July when South African police raided a farm near White River, Mpumalanga. The farm was initially registered as a training facility for a private security company. However, police allege it had been converted into a military-style camp. A police spokesperson indicated that the group had allegedly misrepresented themselves on visa applications, stating they were in South Africa for security guard training. During the raid, authorities reportedly found licensed firearms, military tents, cocaine, and cannabis at the camp. South African police are still investigating the farm’s owner, a South African national, to determine if he had the necessary authorization to operate the site as a military camp. Reactions and Legal Proceedings Nico du Plessis, a lawyer representing one of the Libyan detainees, expressed relief on behalf of his clients, stating the group was "happy" that the charges were dropped. The men are expected to be deported to Benghazi, Libya's second-largest city. Despite the withdrawal of charges against the Libyans, investigations into the owner of the farm and the camp’s operations are ongoing. Police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli confirmed that authorities are examining whether the conversion of the site into a military-style camp was lawful. Libya’s Instability Libya has experienced chronic instability since the 2011 ousting and killing of its longtime leader, Muammar Gaddafi. The country remains divided, with factions vying for control in different regions. The deportation of the 95 Libyans will return them to a nation still grappling with insecurity and political upheaval. Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, George highlighted the need for unity, warning that divisions could jeopardize the PDP’s future. He advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to approach his presidential ambition cautiously, urging him not to let desperation overshadow the party’s collective goals. “All is not well with our party. In fact, our party is derailing,” George stated, calling on aggrieved members to unite and resolve the party’s challenges. He described the current state of the PDP as troubling, saying, “Our party is at the precipice of a dangerous looming crisis if pending critical party issues are not urgently addressed.” George accused certain members of pretending to be loyal to the PDP while secretly aligning with the APC. “Some members have one leg in PDP and another in APC. This pretension must stop,” he warned. He lamented the decline of the PDP, saying, “Today, our founding fathers who have gone to the world beyond will be crying in their graves because this party has become a shadow of itself due to selfish interests.” Reflecting on Atiku’s ambition, George said, “Why is Atiku so desperate? Some of us won’t allow your desperation to destroy this party. PDP is not the private enterprise of any individual.” He added that Atiku, who will be 81 in 2027, should step back and act as an elder statesman, saying, “This is the time for you to calm down and act like an elder.” He criticized the sidelining of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and urged former Governor Nyesom Wike to “cool off immediately.” George also expressed concern about threats from the APC’s leadership to dominate future elections, saying, “The National Chairman of APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, has threatened to capture all states in Nigeria.” Concluding, George called for unity and dedication among PDP members. “We must not allow anybody to destroy our party because PDP is the only true national party,” he said, urging elders to rise above personal interests and focus on the greater good. “Anything else will be suicidal,” he warned. Africa War in DRC RDC, RWANDA, ANGOLA: THE PARTICULAR PROBLEM IN THE GREAT LAKES REGION Alphonse Sep 7, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link The problem of the AFC/M23 has frequently been a stain on the governments of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Rwanda, where none of these governments have been able to find effective solutions. A secret tête-à-tête between intelligence officials from Angola, the DRC, and Rwanda took place quietly in Goma, a city in western Congo. Angola's envoy advised the parties to collaborate as a unified government to address the complex issue of the AFC/M23. The DRC has repeatedly accused Rwanda of being the main sponsor of the AFC/M23, a claim widely reported by Congolese media, which has been highly critical of the RDF/AFC/M23. It is alleged that thousands of spies from Rwanda are operating in Goma, spanning from southern Goma to northern Goma. Furthermore, it is claimed that Rwanda has provided the Banyamulenge with identity documents and placed them in the judicial system, where Banyamulenge lawyers, judges, and prosecutors are said to dominate. These "Izamarere" spies are reportedly active throughout western Congo. Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, Rwanda's former Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed on VOA that a gathering took place in Goma, attended by the deputy head of Rwanda's Investigation Bureau, Angola's deputy head of intelligence, and their DRC counterpart. The main objective of this meeting was to resolve issues surrounding the AFC/M23 and to address the widespread hate speech against Congolese Tutsis, which has broader implications for Rwanda and other ethnic groups connected to the Rwandan government. This gathering was followed by a tête-à-tête between the President of the DRC, Antoine Félix Tshisekedi, and the President of Burundi, General Évariste Ndayishimiye. , they discussed regional insecurity allegedly worsened by Rwanda's actions. While Rwanda's Ambassador Nduhungirehe denied the presence of Rwandan troops in Congo, several UN reports have provided evidence of Rwandan soldiers fighting alongside the M23 rebel group, with estimates suggesting 3,000 to 4,000 Rwandan troops involved and Rwanda accused of having significant control over M23 operations. ( The Defense Post ) Presidents Tshisekedi and Ndayishimiye also discussed how Rwanda's actions have caused significant strain on both countries. They accused Rwanda of exploiting the DRC’s natural resources, particularly precious stones, and using Burundi as a weak front to carry out activities on sovereign soil. Can the issues surrounding the M23, its allies, and the FARDC be resolved through these recent gatherings? In her post, Mrs. Akeredolu, who holds a PhD, wrote: “Just thinking. 2023 Nigerian Presidential Election Total Votes Cast: 25 million Counting Duration: 5 days.“2024 U.S Presidential Election Total Votes Cast: 155 million Counting Duration: Approximately 10 hours.“Moral: When dishonesty is prioritized, simple things become difficult.” The post sparked varied reactions online, but one comment from a user named Paulexy (@paul_oza) particularly caught her attention. He stated: “Truth is indeed bitter. I can understand the attacks on her. We are doomed in this country Nigeria.” In response, Mrs. Akeredolu replied: “Very bitter indeed! Who will rescue Nigeria? The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), currently investigating the incident as a case of culpable homicide, reported that the officer mistakenly believed they were under attack. According to IPID, six Public Order Police officers, along with two members of the Port Shepstone K9 Unit, were involved in an operation shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday to apprehend an individual allegedly connected to a domestic dispute. Reports indicate that as officers attempted to control the situation, a stun grenade was deployed in the room. Believing they were "under attack," the officer "opened fire but accidentally shot two of her colleagues." IPID confirmed, "One police officer was shot and killed, and the other was injured and taken to hospital." The agency is now examining the case under charges of culpable homicide and negligent discharge of a firearm. Police Minister Senzo Mchunu expressed condolences, stating, "Our thoughts are especially with the family of the Public Order Police member who lost his life in this unfortunate event. We also send our prayers for the full recovery of the K9 Unit member who sustained injuries." Mchunu emphasized that the ministry would support those affected by the incident and work to prevent similar occurrences in the future. In his statement, Mchunu also called for heightened caution during police operations and noted that a thorough investigation is underway to understand the circumstances leading to the shooting. He urged IPID to expedite the inquiry to bring clarity and closure to those involved. Mchunu added, "We call on all law enforcement teams to exercise utmost caution in planning and executing operations, particularly those involving high-risk situations. It is vital to reinforce protocols, ensure clear communication, and employ the highest standards of safety to protect both our officers and the communities they serve."
