His call comes after the Luxembourg minister blocked European sanctions against Rwanda. On his X account, Dr. Mukwege highlighted that during this time, Congolese people continue to be killed, children are forcibly recruited, and women suffer from sexual violence. "African states and public opinion on our continent cannot continue to accept this tragedy and scandal without reacting," he warned. He further stated: "We ask African leaders to show their solidarity with the Congolese people and take responsibility by implementing the fundamental principles of our founding treaties. Let us not wait for the Western world to share more humanity with the Congolese people than African leaders themselves! All Africans will be watching Harare this weekend."
