Angela Bassett discusses aging, confidence, and why maintaining passion and optimism keeps her feeling young at 67.

Angela Bassett says turning 67 has not changed how she approaches life or how young she feels. The award-winning actress, recently ranked No. 1 on AARP’s Movies for Grownups list of the 25 Most Fabulous Women Over 50, said she refuses to let age set limits on her ambitions or happiness.

“I don’t allow age to impose some limit on me. Half the time I forget how old I am,” Bassett told the outlet. While birthdays remain meaningful, she joked that others are usually quick to remind her of her age.

Bassett said her guiding attitude is to keep moving forward and believe that “the best is yet to come.” She encourages others to trust that their goals remain achievable regardless of age.

The actress, who shares 19-year-old twins Bronwyn and Slater with husband Courtney B. Vance, said her passion for acting keeps her energized. Because she enjoys her work, she noted, it never feels like a burden. Maintaining excitement and a positive mindset, she added, is central to staying vibrant.

Bassett has previously spoken about the value of aging, emphasizing the wisdom gained through experience. Mistakes and challenges, she said, become lessons that strengthen resilience. Part of that growth includes recognizing that not everything deserves attention and that setting boundaries is essential.

“‘No’ is a complete sentence,” Bassett said, explaining that prioritizing what matters allows both clarity and personal balance.

Her perspective at age 67, she added, shows that time can expand confidence rather than limit it. With optimism and drive, Bassett continues to demonstrate that feeling young often comes down to mindset.
