Who Should Apply?
This application period is for parents, guardians or caregivers who want a learner to move to another Western Cape public school for the 2027 school year and enter one of the following grades:

Can You Apply Online?
Online transfer applications are available only when the learner meets one of the WCED’s specified transfer criteria.
A parent may submit an online transfer request when:
The learner has reached the highest grade offered by the current school. For example, the school may end at Grade 3 or Grade 9.
The parent or caregiver has moved employment to another area, making a school transfer necessary.
The family has moved to a different residential address, making the current school impractical.

When Must You Apply Directly to a School or District?
Not every transfer request can be completed online.
A hard-copy transfer application must be submitted directly to the relevant school or education district in circumstances that include:
The parent wants another school only because of personal preference and does not meet one of the approved online-transfer criteria.
The learner needs access to specific medical or psychological treatment that is not reasonably available near the current school.
The learner is a ward of the State under an appointed guardian or relevant statutory authority.
Medical or psychological transfer requests should include supporting evidence explaining the learner’s needs.
Parents who are uncertain about the correct application route should contact the WCED before submitting.
Documents to Prepare
The WCED says parents or caregivers must submit the relevant supporting documents with the transfer request.
Prepare clear copies of:
The learner’s latest school report
The learner’s birth certificate, identity document, passport, study permit or other accepted identification
Proof of application for immigration documentation, where applicable
A police affidavit where an accepted identity document is unavailable
Proof of the parent or caregiver’s residential address
A police affidavit confirming residence when standard proof of address is unavailable
Proof of a changed work address when employment relocation is the reason for transfer
Medical or psychological supporting documents when the request is based on access to treatment
Guardianship or statutory documents when the learner is a ward of the State

Step 1: Open the Official Portal

Step 2: Register or Log In
Parents who already have an admissions account can log in using their identity, passport or permit number and password.

Step 3: Enter the Learner and Transfer Information
Provide the learner’s correct personal, school and grade information.

Check that all files are clear and that the address, employment or school information supports the stated reason for transfer.
Step 5: Submit and Save the Reference Details

Save the application reference information and take a screenshot of the confirmation page. Log back into the portal later to check whether the application was successfully recorded and whether further information is required.
How to Submit a Direct Application
Parents whose circumstances do not qualify for the online process should contact the preferred school or the relevant WCED district office.
