Learn who qualifies for the Second Chance Matric Programme, how exam registration works and where to access free official study support.

South Africans who did not complete matric, failed to meet the National Senior Certificate requirements or want to improve selected results can use the Department of

Basic Education’s Second Chance Matric Programme for free study support.

The programme provides access to study guides, past examination papers, video lessons, broadcast support and selected face-to-face learning centres.

However, the programme’s study support and examination registration are separate processes.

Important: Registration for the June 2026 Senior Certificate examination closed on 6 February 2026. It must not be presented as open.

The Department of Basic Education had not published a new national Senior Certificate registration window on the official pages checked on 5 August 2026.
