What does “funding eligible” mean?
“Funding eligible” normally means NSFAS has determined that the applicant meets the applicable financial and other funding requirements.

It does not always mean that registration and payments are complete. A first-time student may still need:
Admission to a public university or TVET college
Registration for an approved qualification
Registration data to be sent to NSFAS by the institution
Completion of any funding agreement required on the portal
NSFAS stated that first-time students who qualified financially could still require confirmation of valid acceptance from an institution. This appears in its official 2 January 2026 funding update.
What to do if documents are missing
Sign in to myNSFAS and check the exact document request. Upload clear and complete files through the portal.
Depending on the applicant's circumstances, NSFAS may request:
Student identity document or birth certificate
