🏫 About the STH Bursary
The School of Tourism and Hospitality (STH) at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) is offering bursaries for the 2026 academic year to support deserving students in the Tourism and Hospitality Management fields.
These bursaries aim to reward students who show academic excellence, financial need, and commitment to the hospitality and tourism industry.

🎓 Who Can Apply
To qualify for the STH Bursary 2026, you must:
✅ Be a registered UJ student (you must already have a UJ student number).
✅ Be a South African citizen with a valid ID.
✅ Be studying Tourism Management or Hospitality Management.
✅ Have passed all subjects in the previous academic year (for renewal).
✅ Apply each year — the bursary is valid for one year at a time.
💡 First-time UJ applicants must first apply for a programme to obtain a student number before submitting the bursary form.
💰 Bursary Category
Butch Kerzner Memorial Trust Bursary
This prestigious bursary supports senior students (2nd year and above) who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.
Award value: Up to R20,000
Renewal depends on academic progress each year.
📘 Available only to students enrolled in Tourism or Hospitality Management.
🧾 Required Supporting Documents
Your application must include certified copies of all the following (documents older than 6 months won’t be accepted):
1️⃣ Curriculum Vitae (max 3 pages)
2️⃣ South African ID copy
3️⃣ Certified academic record from UJ or the Department of Education
4️⃣ Certified copy of Grade 12 certificate
5️⃣ A hand-written, one-page motivation explaining why you deserve this bursary
6️⃣ Proof of household income (latest payslips or affidavits if unemployed)
7️⃣ Statement of fees account (from UJ student portal)
⚠️ Incomplete applications will not be considered.
💼 Financial Information
Applicants must declare gross annual income for all household members.
If there is no income, attach a sworn affidavit confirming unemployment or social grant income.
Applications with “R0” income and no supporting documents will be rejected.

Students must complete the form by hand in block letters.
Only complete and signed forms will be processed.
UJ will treat all applications as confidential.
Applicants must sign a declaration confirming that all information is true and correct.
