Uganda’s security agencies have intensified preparations ahead of President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 12 at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, with military and police commanders overseeing final rehearsals ahead of the event.
Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba inspected parade rehearsals at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and urged participating units to deliver a flawless performance during the inauguration ceremony. He described the parade as a reflection of the military’s discipline, readiness, and operational strength.
According to officials present during the rehearsals, the event brought together senior commanders from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Police, and Prisons Service, including Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba and Commissioner General of Prisons Johnson Byabashaija.
Security agencies have also announced extensive deployment plans across Kampala and surrounding districts ahead of the ceremony. Uganda Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said tactical response teams, rapid intervention units, and static security personnel would be positioned in key areas to manage security and traffic movements.
Several roads leading to Kololo are expected to face temporary restrictions, including John Babiha Avenue, Yusuf Lule Road, and parts of Entebbe Road. Authorities said diversions would be implemented to ease congestion as delegations and invited guests arrive for the ceremony.
The inauguration is expected to attract regional and international delegations, with thousands of attendees anticipated at Kololo Independence Grounds. Museveni, who first came to power in 1986, secured another term following Uganda’s January presidential election.
