Hariana Veras Launches Global Peace for DRC Now Campaign

Washington, D.C. — Hariana Veras-Victoria, Chief White House Correspondent for Africa, has launched Peace for DRC Now, a global awareness campaign aimed at drawing international attention to the humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Announcing the initiative, Veras said the campaign seeks to amplify the voices of millions of Congolese affected by decades of violence, displacement, and instability while encouraging people around the world to advocate for peace.

Who is Hariana Veras-Victoria ?

Hariana Veras-Victoria is an award-winning Angolan journalist and one of the most prominent African media figures based in Washington, D.C. She is widely recognized as the first African journalist permanently accredited to the White House press corps, while also holding credentials to cover the Pentagon, the U.S. Senate, and the State Department. Through her platform Get To Know Africa, Veras has dedicated her career to bringing African stories to global audiences and ensuring the continent's perspectives are represented in international policymaking and media coverage

"For more than 30 years, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has endured one of the deadliest and most devastating conflicts in modern history," she said. "Millions of innocent civilians continue to suffer, yet this crisis often receives far less global attention than it deserves."

Veras explained that the campaign also aims to educate the public about the DRC's importance to the global economy. The country supplies many of the critical minerals used to manufacture smartphones, electric vehicles, computers, batteries, and other technologies that millions of people rely on every day.

"The truth is that Congo helps power the world," she said. "While the world benefits from its resources, millions of Congolese families continue to live with the consequences of conflict. Peace in the DRC is not just an African issue, it's a human issue and a global issue."

The Peace for DRC Now campaign encourages people to take simple actions to help raise awareness. Supporters are invited to record a 30-second video saying "Peace for DRC Now," share it on social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and TikTok, use the hashtag #PeaceForDRCNow, and tag Hariana Veras-Victoria to help spread the message.

According to Veras, every post, video, and shared message can help keep international attention focused on a crisis that has displaced millions of people and claimed countless lives over the past three decades.

She described the initiative as a call for peace, justice, and human dignity, urging the international community to listen to Congolese voices, stand in solidarity with communities affected by conflict, and support efforts to achieve lasting peace.
