PRESS RELEASE No. 36 OF DECEMBER 6, 2025

Since Thursday, December 4, 2025 — the day of the signing of the Washington Peace Agreement in front of the U.S. President and international witnesses — the Rwandan army and its AFC/M23 proxies have intensified artillery bombardments from Bugarama (Rwanda) targeting densely populated Congolese localities located along the Kamanyola–Uvira axis, in the Ruzizi Plain.

The situation is grave, and the crime is heinous. Several Congolese civilians have been killed and are among the victims of Rwandan barbarity and the criminal greed of the AFC/M23. These bombings have also destroyed schools, health centers, and residential homes.

These acts, which constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, clearly demonstrate Kigali’s intent to mock the international community, to publicly defy its commitments, and to sabotage any peace process, despite having freely and publicly agreed to them before witnesses.

The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) denounce and condemn this latest pogrom committed by people who show no regard for human life.

The FARDC also reassures the population of their unyielding determination to resist Rwanda’s warmongering and criminal ambitions. They vow to fight to the last breath, if necessary, to protect the population — no matter the cost.
