The Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda are set to sign six memoranda of understanding after the 9th session of their Joint Standing Commission in Kampala, where officials agreed to strengthen border security, trade and bilateral cooperation.

The agreements are expected to be signed on Monday, May 11, 2026, at State House in the presence of Presidents Félix Tshisekedi and Yoweri Museveni.

The commission met from May 8 to 10 in Kampala, with discussions focused on security cooperation, cross-border trade, infrastructure and regional stability.

Ugandan media also reported that the talks opened with an agenda covering trade, security and infrastructure links between the two neighbouring countries.

The planned projects include one-stop border posts and modern cross-border markets in Kasindi, Bunagana and Mahagi. Officials said experts from both sides have three months to accelerate the roadmap agreed during the session.

The next step will be the formal signing of the six cooperation agreements, which are expected to guide implementation in sectors identified by the two governments.
