OPENING OF THE KABILA TRIAL

Kinshasa – July 26, 2025, Following the waiver of the immunities of Mr. Joseph Kabila by the Senate of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), pronounced on Thursday, May 22, 2025, the public minister has initiated several legal proceedings against Joseph Kabila. The former president and senator for life is accused of being an accomplice of the armed group M23, supported by neighboring Rwanda


Mr. Joseph Kabila is being prosecuted for:

  1. Participation in an insurrectional movement

  2. Crimes against the peace and security of mankind

  3. Intentional homicide by bullets

  4. High treason against the Republic

  5. Apology for crimes

  6. Acts of rape and torture

  7. Deportation of civilians


Occupation of the Congolese cities of Goma and Bukavu by armed forces

Present at the opening of the session, the Deputy Minister of Justice and International Litigation, H.E.M. Samuel Mbemba Kabuya, declared:

Justice does not negotiate, it does not dialogue. The justice calendar is different from the political calendar."

For the public minister, the accused Joseph Kabila must face justice willingly or by force. No dialogue will erase the weight of his high treason against the Republic.
