The African National Congress (ANC) is considering forming a government of national unity after losing its governing majority in last week's election. Despite running South Africa since Nelson Mandela's 1994 victory, the ANC was penalized by voters for persistent poverty, joblessness, crime, corruption, and power cuts. Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri announced on Wednesday that the ANC, still the largest party but unable to govern alone, is in talks with five other parties, including the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). The party’s National Executive Committee will discuss the options on Thursday. "The conversation is leaning towards a government of national unity because this is what the people of South Africa have indicated," Bhengu-Motsiri said, aiming to unite various societal sectors behind the new government. She added that President Cyril Ramaphosa will remain in his position, dismissing any demands for his removal as a condition for coalition talks. The ANC secured 159 seats out of 400 in the new National Assembly, while the DA won 87 seats, and the EFF 39. Jacob Zuma's uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party secured a surprising 58 seats, while the Inkatha Freedom Party and the Patriotic Alliance won 17 and nine seats, respectively. The business sector favors a coalition between the ANC and the pro-business DA, which opposes some of the ANC's Black empowerment policies. In contrast, the EFF's radical proposals, including nationalizing mines and redistributing land, are viewed negatively by investors. The rand fell more than 1% against the dollar during Bhengu-Motsiri's announcement. Despite approaching Zuma's MK party, the ANC was rebuffed. Bhengu-Motsiri stated, "Our door remains open." Zuma, a strong opponent of Ramaphosa, remains influential in KwaZulu-Natal, where additional police have been deployed to maintain public order. - Esther Adongo Arunga Biography: KTN Career and 2026 Name Change
Esther Adongo Arunga biography: her KTN career, legal training, 2019 court case and confirmed October 2026 name change from Timberlake. Esther Adongo Arunga is a former Kenyan television news anchor, radio presenter and legally trained professional whose career once made her a familiar face on KTN. In October 2026, she formally resumed using the name Esther Adongo Arunga after years of being publicly known as Esther Adongo Timberlake. The name change was documented in a Kenyan Gazette notice, bringing renewed attention to her broadcasting achievements, legal education and the difficult events that later placed her family in Australian courts. Her life cannot be understood through that tragedy alone: before it, Arunga had developed a career in two major Kenyan newsrooms and qualified for the legal profession. Who is Esther Adongo Arunga? Esther Adongo Arunga is a former Kenyan television and radio journalist known for her work at Capital FM and KTN. She was admitted to the Kenyan bar in 2009 and became a public figure in legal proceedings in Australia. A deed poll in October 2026 restored her use of the name Arunga. Esther Arunga's legal name change in October 2026 A public notice reported in the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation's 13 October coverage identifies Gazette Notice No. 16203 as the record of Arunga's decision to stop using the name Esther Adongo Timberlake. The declaration was made through a deed poll dated 2 October 2026 , registered at Nairobi's Registry of Documents, and published in the Kenya Gazette on 9 October 2026 . The notice directs that she be addressed as Esther Adongo Arunga. This is a change to her formal name, not an announcement of a new television contract, political candidacy or residence. It does not explain why she made the decision. That distinction is especially important because her surname had become closely associated with the highly publicised marriage and family history of Quincy Timberlake. The Star's contemporary account specifically states that the notice does not confirm whether Arunga has returned to Kenya or whether her marital circumstances have changed. A Nairobi address on a legal filing should not be treated as proof that she now lives there. The timing also deserves care. The legal document dates from 2 October, the Gazette was published on 9 October, and national newsrooms reported the change in the days that followed. Those are three different dates in the same story. From Kenya High School to the legal profession Arunga attended Kenya High School before studying in Australia at the University of Wollongong . Contemporary and retrospective Kenyan reports describe studies in communication and law; some disagree about the precise names and number of qualifications. Her stronger documented professional milestone is her admission to the Kenyan bar in Nairobi in 2009 , following legal training in Kenya. K24's account of her educational path and The Star both identify that admission. Her education explains a distinctive feature of her early public profile. Arunga was not solely a presenter who had entered television through broadcasting experience. She also possessed legal training that could have supported work outside the newsroom. The same combination of law and communication later complicated public perceptions of the Australian court case: her qualifications were discussed during legal proceedings, but qualifications do not determine anyone's guilt or innocence. Public accounts of her childhood contain additional details about siblings, upbringing and time outside Kenya. Those details are less consistently supported than her schooling and professional career, and they are not essential to understanding her documented public life. Likewise, a reliable full birth date has not been established in the sources available for a precise age calculation. ADVERTISEMENT How Esther Arunga became a recognised Kenyan television presenter Arunga worked in radio at Capital FM and subsequently appeared on Kenya Television Network , widely known as KTN. During the late 2000s, KTN was a major platform for national news and current affairs. A presenter on the network could become widely recognised without having the international social-media following associated with broadcasters today. In 2008 , Arunga won the Chaguo la Teeniez Award for Best Teen TV Anchor/Presenter . The award was an audience-facing recognition of her on-screen work and remains a verifiable career milestone. A later Kenya Times career profile confirms both the award and her move from Capital FM to KTN. Arunga's broadcasting experience belonged to a changing Kenyan media environment, in which commercial radio, privately owned television stations and national news programmes offered new routes to public recognition. Television newsreaders were themselves public personalities. Their presentation style, clarity and credibility could become as recognisable as the stories they delivered. Her transition away from KTN in 2010 therefore attracted considerable attention. It was not simply a routine change between employers. The departure coincided with her involvement in an intense public controversy concerning a religious movement and ambitious political plans. For a separate perspective on Kenyan newsroom careers, XTRAfrica has profiled investigative journalist and editor Alex Kiprotich , whose career followed a very different path in the country's media sector. Joseph Hellon, the Finger of God Church and the PlaCenta Party In 2009 and 2010, Arunga's association with musician and religious leader Joseph Hellon became national news. She joined the Finger of God Church , the movement associated with Hellon, and her activities drew scrutiny from both her family and journalists. At a February 2010 press conference, Arunga defended her ability to choose where she lived and with whom she associated. Capital FM reported her remarks directly , including her statement that she was an adult who could make her own decisions. Those remarks are significant because they reflect her position at that moment, rather than later interpretations of her choices. Police subsequently investigated people connected with the church. A Capital FM court report dated 10 March 2010 records that Arunga was charged with membership of an unlawful society, denied the charge and was released on cash bail. That report establishes the charge and plea at the time; it should not be rewritten as a conviction. During the same period, Hellon, Arunga and Quincy Timberlake became associated with plans for the PlaCenta Party . At an April 2010 press conference, Capital FM described the launch of a manifesto by Hellon and Arunga for a party that the outlet said was not yet registered. The political project attracted attention partly because it came from figures whose religious and media activities were already under close public scrutiny. Capital FM's reporting from the April launch described proposals concerning how ministries would be organised, teachers' pay, schools and arts facilities. The participants presented those promises as a prospective programme for Kenya rather than a record of government service. That difference matters when assessing Arunga's political biography. She was publicly connected to a movement that announced plans and a manifesto, but the available contemporary reports do not establish that she won an election, held a state office or implemented any of the pledges. Her brief political involvement is therefore best understood as a public aspiration that coincided with her departure from the broadcasting profession, not a completed career as an elected national leader. These events changed the direction of Arunga's public career. A promising period in broadcasting gave way to a prolonged dispute over personal autonomy, religious affiliation, relationships and politics. They also established why her name continued to attract attention even after she stopped presenting the news. ADVERTISEMENT Marriage to Quincy Timberlake and relocation to Australia Arunga announced in March 2010 that she had married Quincy Timberlake and adopted the surname Timberlake. The public name used in later reporting was Esther Adongo Timberlake . Her 2026 deed poll reverses that earlier name choice, but it does not, on its own, prove a divorce or explain the couple's present legal relationship. The family later relocated to Australia , where their domestic circumstances eventually became the subject of an extended criminal investigation. Australian court reporting in 2019 described Arunga as a permanent resident of Australia at that time. This historical fact is not reliable evidence of her residence or immigration status in October 2026. Her life abroad added an international dimension to a story that had started in Kenya's broadcasting and political spheres. Kenyan readers followed proceedings in Queensland, while Australian courts dealt with evidence and charges under Australian law. The case must be described according to what those courts actually established, rather than through sensational claims circulated in celebrity coverage. The death of Sinclair and Esther Arunga's 2019 conviction In June 2014 , Arunga's three-year-old son, Sinclair , died at the family's home in Kallangur , north of Brisbane. The investigation found that the child's fatal injuries were not consistent with the initial account that he had fallen down the stairs. The resulting court proceedings lasted for years and were widely reported in both Kenya and Australia. In July 2019 , Arunga pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact in connection with the unlawful killing, having misled investigators about what happened. As ABC News reported from the Brisbane court , she received a 10-month custodial sentence but was released on immediate parole . Crucially, Justice Martin Burns said there was no allegation that Arunga caused or contributed to Sinclair's fatal injuries . Her conviction concerned her efforts to mislead police during the investigation. That distinction is essential to a fair account of her legal history. It would be inaccurate to describe her as having been convicted of killing her child. A separate ABC report on the guilty plea described how Arunga later corrected her account to investigators. The proceedings were painful and highly public, but the legal responsibility attributed to each adult must not be blurred. The July 2019 sentencing report also records that the judge considered her eventual decision to give investigators a truthful account. The court examined the delay before her correction and the consequences for the investigation, rather than holding a new trial to determine whether she had physically attacked Sinclair. This distinction can be lost when the original 2014 investigation, the 2019 accessory conviction and the eventual 2023 manslaughter plea are compressed into a single sentence. Reading the proceedings in order preserves the chronology and avoids giving Arunga a conviction entered against someone else. It also recognises that immediate parole did not erase her guilty plea or the court's formal sentence. Quincy Timberlake's separate 2023 manslaughter sentence Quincy Timberlake initially faced a murder charge. In September 2023 , prosecutors accepted his guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter . On 29 September 2023 , the Brisbane Supreme Court sentenced him to 11 years in prison , recognising more than nine years already spent in custody and setting a parole date. ABC's sentencing report and Australian Associated Press separately detailed the outcome. The court heard evidence concerning Timberlake's actions and mental state at the time of Sinclair's death. Those findings concern his culpability and sentence, not a new conviction against Arunga. Reports about possible immigration detention or deportation also should not be treated as proof of his present location without a dated authoritative update. For Arunga's biography, the distinction between her 2019 conviction and Timberlake's 2023 sentence is central. Both cases arose from the death of the same child, but they involved different charges, different conduct and separate sentencing decisions. Her last widely documented professional achievements remain her years at Capital FM and KTN and her admission to the Kenyan bar. It would be premature to report that she has resumed television presenting or entered a new legal post. Her name change, by contrast, is a concrete and dated public record. - Young Jonn Biography: Age, Songs, Albums & Producer-to-Star Rise
Young Jonn biography: explore his age, real name, Ibadan roots, producer years, songs, albums, awards and rise as an Afropop singer. Young Jonn is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer who became widely recognised twice. First, his “Wicked Producer” tag announced major Nigerian pop records of the 2010s. Then he stepped from behind the console and built a public identity through “Dada,” “Xtra Cool,” Jiggy Forever and Blue Disco . Born John Saviours Udomboso in Ibadan, he developed his musical instincts in church before becoming a teenage producer and moving to Lagos. His career now joins technical beat-making, soft melodic vocals and collaborations across African pop. Who is Young Jonn? Young Jonn is a Nigerian Afropop singer, songwriter and award-winning producer born in Ibadan in 1995. After shaping major hits for artists including Olamide and Kizz Daniel, he became a successful front-facing performer through “Dada,” “Xtra Cool,” Jiggy Forever and Blue Disco . The second breakthrough: from producer tag to frontman Young Jonn’s defining turning point did not introduce him to the music industry; it changed where audiences saw him. By the time he signed with Chocolate City and released “Dada” in 2022, he had already spent years making records for other performers. The single placed his own voice at the centre of a bright, romantic Afropop production, while a remix with Davido expanded its reach. That move mattered because studio authority does not automatically become stage presence. “Dada” opened the door, but “Xtra Cool” made the transition feel sustainable. Its restrained delivery and romantic tension showed that Young Jonn could write for his own vocal character. The change is now visible across Young Jonn’s XTRAfrica songs page , where his catalogue is presented under his own name rather than only through production credits. His story is therefore not a simple rise from obscurity. It is the rarer account of an established creative worker accepting beginner status again in public. Before fame: church instruments and Ibadan beginnings John Saviours Udomboso was born on 16 February 1995 in Ibadan, Oyo State. His label’s official Young Jonn profile confirms his full name, birth date and early years in the city. He is 31 years old as of 30 July 2026. His childhood placed music, faith and education in the same household. In a detailed Tirade World interview , he said that his father and mother were pastors and that his mother also ran a school. Church gave him regular access to drums and keyboard, while school exposed him to football, basketball, dance and performance. He also formed a rap group called AVG with his elder brother and cousin. Young Jonn described education as valuable, although studio work made him a part-time distance learner. Reliable public sources do not consistently identify the institution or confirm a completed degree, so stronger claims about his university history should be treated cautiously. Music was already personal before it became a profession. He explained the foundation of his writing simply: “My music is generally inspired by my life experiences.” That statement connects his two careers. Producing trained him to organise rhythm and melody for others; singing let him apply those tools to his own experiences. The Wicked Producer sound, craft and early achievements Young Jonn began producing in 2009, at about 14, and moved to Lagos in 2012. His official career history records a move into Hit Factory Studios and traces the production phase that established his reputation. His work with Olamide and YBNL-associated artists helped place his tag on street-pop and Afropop records built for immediate movement. The “Wicked Producer” nickname communicated force, but his craft was broader than hard drums. He could create space for a singer, build hooks through repetition and combine electronic percussion with Nigerian pop phrasing. Working with Olamide also showed him the value of speed and discipline. ADVERTISEMENT His production achievements include: winning Producer of the Year at The Headies for his work on Kizz Daniel’s “Mama”; winning African Producer of the Year at the Soundcity MVP Awards; producing major records associated with Olamide, Kizz Daniel, Lil Kesh, Tiwa Savage and other Nigerian stars; carrying his production identity into a solo catalogue rather than abandoning it. These awards are important because they establish that his singer era did not replace an unsuccessful first career. He entered the spotlight after reaching the top of a specialised profession, bringing years of arrangement and studio judgment with him. “Dada,” “Xtra Cool” and a voice of his own Young Jonn’s early solo projects, Love Is Not Enough, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 , let him test a more intimate public identity. “Dada” carried playful attraction, while “Xtra Cool” leaned into romantic uncertainty. The records shared his producer’s interest in hooks, but his hazy vocals made them feel softer than many of the hits associated with his tag. The shift also required confidence. Young Jonn had to appear in videos, carry interviews and translate recordings into live shows. His advice to other producers reflected the persistence behind that transition: “When you find out what works for you just keep doing it.” The singles allowed audiences to recognise Young Jonn the vocalist without forgetting the producer. That dual identity became the foundation for his first album. Jiggy Forever and Blue Disco : albums, recognition and growth Released in April 2024, Jiggy Forever turned a run of successful singles into a full artistic statement. The album moved among romance, ambition, grief and celebration, with guests including Kizz Daniel, Seyi Vibez, Sean Paul and Don Jazzy. “Big Big Things,” “Aquafina,” “Sharpally” and “Stronger” showed different sides of a performer still defining how much of his private life belonged in the music. The album was nominated for Afrobeats Album of the Year at the 17th Headies, while “Big Big Things” entered major song categories. A critical one-year review praised its ambition but argued that parts did not match his strongest production work. Jiggy Forever nevertheless proved that his transition had become serious. His second studio album, Blue Disco , arrived on 28 November 2025. Apple Music’s album presentation describes a 21-track project built around ambition, romance, faith and forward movement. Collaborators include Wizkid, Asake, Olamide, Rema, Focalistic, Shenseea and Franglish. The title expresses the record’s two emotional temperatures: “blue” for vulnerability and reflection, “disco” for movement and release. In an OkayAfrica interview about the album , Young Jonn framed it as evidence of personal and professional change: “I’ve grown as a person, as an artist, and as a producer.” Songs such as “Cash Flow,” “Che Che,” “2Factor” and “Lalala” with Rema extend his collaborative range without erasing his own melodic centre. The album confirms that he no longer treats singing as an experiment beside production; both roles now belong to the same career. ADVERTISEMENT Young Jonn career timeline Grief, family and the person behind “Stronger” Young Jonn’s music became more openly personal as his singer career developed. He has spoken about losing his mother and the creative emptiness that followed. Public sources disagree on the exact year of her death, but the emotional consequence is consistently documented. “Stronger” became a tribute to her belief in his future and a record about trying to keep moving after loss. Church appears repeatedly because his parents created a setting where instruments, performance and learning were available every week. Young Jonn has not published enough dependable information to justify naming private relatives, and his relationship status is not reliably established. This restraint matters in a biography shaped by grief. The valuable story is not gossip about who may be around him. It is how a producer once known for public celebration learned to make vulnerability part of his own catalogue. Nigerian identity: Ibadan, Lagos and collaboration Young Jonn is Nigerian, born and raised in Ibadan before building his professional career in Lagos. Although online profiles often assign a specific ethnic identity or state ancestry, dependable first-person evidence for those labels is limited. His artistic identity is better documented through the institutions that formed him: church musicianship, Lagos studios, Yoruba-language pop environments and long collaboration within Nigeria’s recording industry. A producer-performer’s emerging impact Producers are central to Afrobeats but often remain less recognisable than the voices on their records. Young Jonn shows that a producer can preserve technical authority while becoming an artist whose own emotions, image and live performance matter. In April 2026, reporting on his one-billion Spotify-stream milestone counted streams across both performance and production credits. That distinction captures his real influence better than a solo total alone. His catalogue shaped Nigerian pop before his face became central to it. Separately, his authenticated Spotify record showed approximately 4.3 million monthly listeners on 24 July 2026, according to dated platform tracking . What comes next after “Elumelu” Young Jonn ’s next chapter is already active rather than speculative. His official website lists international performances across North America, Europe and Australia, showing that Blue Disco is being carried into a wider live circuit. On 29 July 2026, XTRAfrica added “Elumelu” as his newest song , extending the confident, success-minded side of his writing. Future projects may keep dissolving the line between producer and performer. Blue Disco suggests that Young Jonn no longer needs to choose one identity: the ear that built other artists’ records now guides a voice increasingly comfortable carrying its own.
