- Unique flora and fauna of Madagascar:Eight Species Found Nowhere Else
Explore Madagascar’s unique wildlife and plants—from lemurs to baobabs—found nowhere else on Earth. Discover eight rare species and their conservation story. Madagascar isn’t just another island, it’s an evolutionary playground. Cut off from Africa for over 160 million years, the island went and did its own thing, crafting animals and plants you literally won’t spot anywhere else on Earth. Think lemurs with quirky social rules, predators that look like mini cougars, and trees so massive they could star in their own fantasy novel. Ready for a tour of nature’s wildest exclusives? Let’s dive into eight must-know species that put Madagascar on every eco-traveler’s bucket list. 1. Ring-tailed Lemur Meet the celebrity lemur you’ve probably seen on postcards (or animated films). With its black-and-white striped tail, the ring-tailed lemur struts around Madagascar’s dry forests like it owns the place. Unlike its tree-hugging cousins, this lemur loves hanging out on the ground, forming female-ruled squads where grooming doubles as a social glue. Watch for their scent-marking wars and loud howlslemur drama is real. 2. Aye-aye Creepy or genius? The aye-aye is a nocturnal oddball with a super-skinny middle finger that works like a built-in bug detector. It taps on wood, listens for hollow chambers, gnaws through bark with rodent-like teeth, and fishes out juicy grubs. Locals once thought it brought bad luck, but conservationists know this insect-snacking specialist is a treasure worth saving. 3. Indri Think of the indri as the opera singer of the rainforest. The largest of all lemurs, it belts out haunting songs that echo through Madagascar’s eastern jungles. With stubby tails and black-and-white coats, these vertical leapers fly between trees in family groups led by strong females . Sadly, they’re critically endangered and rarely survive in captivity so seeing one in the wild is like hearing a private concert. 4. Fossa If Madagascar had a top predator fashion show, the fossa would strut down the runway. Sleek like a small cougar but technically a mongoose relative , this hunter rules the forests. Fossas are agile climbers, sliding head-first down tree trunks to chase lemurs (their favorite snack). With only a few thousand left, spotting one in the wild is the ultimate safari brag. Giraffe Weevil Giraffe Weevil – A bright red beetle with a cartoonishly long neck, endemic to Madagascar’s forests. Tiny but outrageous, the giraffe weevil is a beetle with a neck so long it looks like a cartoon. Males swing these giraffe-like necks in battles for mates and help roll leaves into neat little nurseries for their eggs. With its shiny red back and black body, this beetle is proof that even bugs can rock runway-ready style. 6. Phantastic (Satanic) Leaf-tailed Gecko Phantastic (Satanic) Leaf-tailed Gecko – A master of disguise, blending perfectly into dead leaves. Nature’s ultimate magician, this gecko turns itself into a dead leaf veins, jagged edges, and all. Just 9 cm long, it vanishes into the forest floor or bark so seamlessly that even trained eyes struggle to spot it. Add in sticky toes and the habit of licking its own eyes (no eyelids here), and you’ve got one of Madagascar’s coolest camo artists. 7. Locals use their fruit pulp and seed oil, but habitat loss is pushing these giants toward endangered status. 8. Traveller’s Tree Shaped like a giant green fan, the traveller’s tree is Madagascar’s answer to a natural water bottle. Rain collects at the base of its enormous leaves, and legend says thirsty travelers once drank from them. Stay safe when booking your trip to South Africa. Read these secure travel booking tips to avoid scams and enjoy your holiday. To enjoy your trip fully, the Department of Tourism advises travellers to book safely and avoid scams. Here are important tips: 1. Check membership with the Association of Southern African Travel Agents (ASATA) or other recognised tourism associations. Ensure the travel provider shows their registration number on quotations. Pay using credit cards instead of EFT for better protection against fraud. Look at their website and marketing materials – poor design, fuzzy logos, or missing contact details are red flags. Verify Accommodation Before Payment Check if the accommodation exists and who owns it using reliable websites or calling directly. Read all terms and conditions carefully before booking. If the place claims to be graded, verify on the official Tourism Grading Council website: Check here 3. Watch Out for Common Scams Emails claiming the establishment is overbooked and asking for banking details to process a refund – call them directly to confirm first. Winning a vacation you never entered – these often hide contracts with tricky clauses. Any offer demanding immediate payment because “today is the last day.” 4. Extra Safety Tips Use travel agents with physical premises and a landline number . Ask people who have used the agent before for their experiences. Avoid sharing your banking details unnecessarily . - UK Court Sentences Rapper DigDat to Life for Attempted Murder
UK rapper DigDat, born Nathan Tokosi, has been sentenced to life in prison for attempted murder following a 2023 London shooting, a court ruled. According to Inyarwanda.com , a UK court has sentenced rapper Nathan Tokosi , widely known by his stage name DigDat, to life imprisonment after convicting him of attempted murder linked to a shooting in west London. The ruling was delivered by the Old Bailey court, which ordered that the 26-year-old must serve a minimum of 24 years in prison before he can apply for parole. Tokosi was found guilty of shooting a 27-year-old man, Daniel Offei-Ntow, multiple times during a late-night attack in Notting Hill on November 20, 2023. Prosecutors told the court that Tokosi carried out the attack by firing a handgun through the open window of a vehicle in which the victim was seated. Offei-Ntow sustained gunshot wounds to the head, mouth, and other parts of his body, requiring two emergency surgeries to save his life. Detective Chief Inspector Chris Shepherd described the incident as a premeditated and violent act intended to kill. Police officers responding to the scene found the victim’s vehicle heavily stained with blood on Clydesdale Road during the early morning hours. The prosecution said CCTV footage showed Tokosi repeatedly driving around the area in the days and hours leading up to the shooting, using a stolen Audi vehicle. The firearm used in the attack was later recovered along with the stolen car. During sentencing, the court heard that Tokosi had a long history of violent behavior dating back to childhood. Records showed that he had previously been convicted of assault and knife-related offenses as a minor and had served time in youth detention for attempted murder. Tokosi was initially convicted in February 2025 on charges including attempted murder, possession of a self-loading pistol, and possession of prohibited ammunition. A subsequent hearing in November 2025 resulted in additional convictions related to illegal firearm possession, leading to the life sentence. Under UK law, a life sentence does not guarantee permanent imprisonment but places the offender under lifelong supervision. Tokosi will only be considered for release after serving the minimum term, subject to a risk assessment by parole authorities. - Yo Maps Biography: Age, Wife, Songs & AFRIMA Award
Yo Maps biography: age, real name, wife, children, songs, albums, AFRIMA award and rise from “Finally” to VIBES ON VIBES. Yo Maps , born Elton Mulenga, is a Zambian singer, songwriter and producer whose love songs, perseverance anthems and Bemba–Nyanja melodies have made him one of his country’s defining pop voices. He shares career updates through his official Instagram and X account . After building his craft in Kabwe studios, he gained national attention with “Finally” alongside Macky 2 and confirmed his arrival with “Season Yanga.” Albums including Komando , Try Again , My Hero and 2026’s VIBES ON VIBES expanded that audience. His music remains grounded in ordinary emotions even as collaborations, stadium concerts and an AFRIMA win have carried it beyond Zambia. Who is Yo Maps? Yo Maps is a Zambian Afropop singer, songwriter and producer known for “Finally,” “Season Yanga,” “Mr Romantic” and “Superman.” Born Elton Mulenga, he built a national following through emotionally direct songs, won major Zambian honours and became AFRIMA’s 2026 Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa. A Zambian Sound Built From Love, Faith and Real Life Yo Maps writes about romance, disappointment, family, ambition and endurance in language close to everyday Zambian conversation. His production often places a patient piano or guitar line beneath a strong melodic hook. The result can move from the tenderness of “Mr Romantic” to the resilient lift of “Try Again” without losing his recognisable voice. In a published transcript of his BBC This Is Africa interview , he explained why listeners recognise themselves in those songs: “I talk about reality, what people are going through bad situations, good situations.” He also connects love songs to faith, self-respect and persistence. A record may sound romantic on first play, yet its deeper subject is often how people continue after rejection or grief. The catalogue on Yo Maps’ XTRAfrica songs page shows his consistent return to those themes. A record may sound romantic on first play, yet its deeper subject is often how people continue after rejection or grief. The catalogue on Yo Maps’ XTRAfrica songs page shows his consistent return to those themes. Kasama and Kabwe: Early Life and Creative Roots Elton Mulenga was born on 29 November 1994 in Kasama, northern Zambia. He is 31 years old as of 30 July 2026. Music entered his life through church. His father was a deacon who encouraged gospel singing, while his mother initially preferred a more conventional education and career. That early tension later became part of the perseverance story in his interviews. At 18, Mulenga moved to Kabwe, which became central to his professional development. He learned recording, production and arranging in an industry where studio access and radio promotion required money. His first commercial release, “Njikata Kuboko,” arrived in 2016. It established the name Yo Maps without making him an immediate national star. The struggle was long enough to test whether music was a temporary ambition. He described the decision simply: “I had that passion for music, so I didn’t give up.” That persistence helps explain his later producer identity. Yo Maps did not enter only as a front-facing singer; he understood how a song was constructed behind the microphone, an advantage that would shape his hooks and collaborations. “Finally” and the Breakthrough Into National Fame The decisive public turn came with “Finally,” his 2018 collaboration with Macky 2. Its mix of romantic relief and celebratory melody travelled widely, and the contemporary Lusaka Times release report documented it as an established hit by the end of that year. The track later won Song of the Year at the 2019 Ngoma Awards. Yet Yo Maps identifies Bobby East’s “Season Yanga,” which he featured on and produced, as the record that made success feel real: “That song is like a blessing to me.” “Finally” opened the national door; “Season Yanga” showed that the first success could become a career. “Am Sorry,” “So Chabe,” “Mr Romantic” and “Pick It Up” followed, balancing vulnerability with choruses built for communal singing. ADVERTISEMENT Bemba, Nyanja and a Modern Zambian Identity Language is not decoration in Yo Maps’ work. Bemba and Nyanja allow him to preserve jokes, emotional shades and social references that would flatten in translation. English appears where it serves a hook or collaboration, but the goal is not to imitate an imported pop accent. It is to make a recognisably Zambian sound travel. He stated that ambition plainly: “You can take the Nyanja-Bemba type of music to the world.” This approach places Yo Maps within the wider circulation of contemporary Zambian music , where local-language pop can be both culturally specific and commercially ambitious. His collaborations reinforce the point. Working with Macky 2, Bobby East and Jae Cash strengthened his place at home; later records with Omarion, Stonebwoy, Harmonize and Mafikizolo connected his melodies with R&B, Afrobeats, Bongo Flava and South African pop. Even with an international guest, his vocal phrasing and songwriting perspective remain Zambian. That balance open to the continent, anchored at home has made him a reference point for younger singers. Albums, Awards and the Growth of His Catalogue Yo Maps turned his run of singles into sustained album eras. Komando brought songs including “Location” and helped establish the romantic-pop image surrounding him. Try Again followed in 2023, presenting persistence as both a title and a career principle. The album launch at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium demonstrated his drawing power; News Diggers reported on the large public event the following day. His 2024 album My Hero moved closer to grief and family memory. “Superman,” featuring Omarion, brought an international collaboration, while the title song addressed his mother’s death. The album showed that scale need not remove personal detail. Career recognition has grown alongside the catalogue: “Finally” won Song of the Year at the 2019 Ngoma Awards, according to the published winners list . He later received multiple Ngoma honours as his albums and singles became central to Zambian popular music. Large headline concerts strengthened the case for locally produced stars as major live attractions. At the January 2026 AFRIMA ceremony, he won Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa. The full AFRIMA winners record places Yo Maps among regional winners from across the continent. That award recognised more than one song: it reflected a catalogue capable of representing Zambia in an increasingly competitive African pop market. Yo Maps Career Timeline The Personal Journey Behind My Hero Yo Maps’ best-documented personal relationship is his marriage to Kidist Kifle Mulenga. The couple married in 2022 and have a daughter, Tendai; he also has an older daughter, Bukata. Public court reporting by Zambia Monitor confirms those relationships, but responsible biography does not need to turn a family dispute into entertainment. The more revealing personal record is My Hero . In the BBC interview, Yo Maps described seeing people return after his mother had died despite not supporting her during illness. The album’s graveyard imagery and title track turned that memory into a warning: care should be shown while someone is alive. It is a painful example of his wider writing method starting with his own experience, then shaping it into a message listeners can apply to their families. ADVERTISEMENT Marriage and fatherhood are part of his public life, but he remains primarily legible through the work. Reliable sources do not establish a precise height, net worth, ethnic label or complete family genealogy, so those popular search claims should not be presented as fact. Impact on Zambian Music Yo Maps has helped change what commercial possibility looks like for a home-grown Zambian pop artist. His combination of singing, writing and production gives him control over the emotional and technical sides of a record. His stadium-scale performances have also encouraged an industry conversation about whether local acts should receive the same investment and respect routinely given to visiting stars. Veteran singer Danny Kaya publicly credited him with changing Zambia’s musical setup, a sign of influence within the country rather than only among fans. Yo Maps’ reach is also visible when artists build songs around his chorus-making ability, as on Jae Cash’s “Kale Naleka” collaboration . His larger contribution is cultural confidence. He demonstrates that Bemba- and Nyanja-led pop can fill major venues, win continental awards and collaborate internationally without copying another market: write locally, produce carefully and let emotional truth carry the song. VIBES ON VIBES and What Comes Next Released on 24 April 2026, VIBES ON VIBES is Yo Maps’ fourth studio album and his latest full-length project. Apple Music lists 16 tracks across 59 minutes, with guests including Rotimi, Innoss’B, Makhadzi, Harmonize, Stonebwoy and Mafikizolo. The feature list maps the regional ambition he had discussed years earlier. The album arrived after his AFRIMA victory, making 2026 a year of confirmation rather than introduction. Collaborating with Harmonize and other continental acts places Zambia inside a wider African pop conversation while giving Yo Maps room to test his melodies against different production traditions. His next challenge is converting regional familiarity into durable audiences beyond Southern Africa. That will require consistent touring, strategic collaborations and songs strong enough to travel without losing their linguistic identity. A proposed Olios Music Festival was announced as a future platform, although its operating details remained unclear in the sources reviewed. For now, VIBES ON VIBES provides the clearest evidence of direction: broader partnerships, a still-Zambian centre and confidence that local language can cross borders. - WHY Kenya-Russia recruit deal matters in Ukraine war
Kenya says Russia will stop recruiting its citizens for Ukraine war, raising concerns over trafficking and foreign fighter risks. Kenya says Russia has agreed to stop recruiting its citizens to fight in the war in Ukraine, following diplomatic talks in Moscow that highlight growing concerns over foreign recruitment networks and their impact on African nationals as cited by BBC news . Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi announced the development after meeting his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, stating that Kenyans would no longer be eligible for enlistment through Russia’s defence ministry. While Lavrov did not directly confirm the agreement, he maintained that foreign fighters had joined voluntarily under Russian law. The issue has drawn attention due to reports that some Kenyans were misled into joining the conflict. Authorities in Nairobi say individuals were promised well-paying civilian jobs abroad but later found themselves deployed to fight in Ukraine. A Kenyan intelligence report cited by officials suggested that more than 1,000 citizens may have been recruited. In response, Kenya has taken steps to curb recruitment networks, including shutting down hundreds of agencies suspected of facilitating deceptive overseas job offers. Lawmakers have also raised concerns about links between trafficking networks and officials involved in the process. Beyond halting recruitment, Nairobi is now pushing for the repatriation of its citizens who wish to return. According to Mudavadi, at least 27 Kenyans have already been brought back, with authorities providing psychological support and rehabilitation services upon their return. The situation reflects a broader pattern seen across Africa, where individuals from multiple countries have been drawn into the Ukraine conflict under varying circumstances. Ukrainian intelligence estimates suggest that more than 1,700 fighters from African nations may have been recruited into Russian forces. Kenya’s diplomatic engagement with Russia also includes efforts to establish clearer and safer labour pathways. Mudavadi indicated that discussions are ongoing to improve access for Kenyan workers to legitimate job opportunities in Russia, aiming to separate labour cooperation from military involvement. The case underscores wider concerns about how global conflicts intersect with labour migration and vulnerability to exploitation, particularly in regions where unemployment drives demand for overseas work opportunities. - South Africa Shooting Toll Rises to 28 as Manhunt Continues
South Africa’s combined Wedela and Lwandle shooting toll has risen to 28 after another victim died in hospital. No arrests have been announced. JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — The combined death toll from the mass shootings in Wedela and Lwandle has risen to 28 after another victim of the Wedela tavern attack died in hospital. Police said on Monday, September 28, that the Wedela toll was now 18, while the separate Lwandle attack remained at 10 deaths. What is the latest South Africa shooting death toll? South African police say another victim of the Wedela tavern shooting has died in hospital, raising that attack’s toll to 18 and the combined Wedela–Lwandle toll to 28. No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not established that the attacks are connected. What changed in the Wedela death toll SABC News reported that one more wounded victim died in hospital, taking the number killed in the Wedela attack from 17 to 18. The police case count was consequently updated to 18 murder counts. Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said five injured people had been shot in the upper body and remained in critical condition. The other survivors were described as stable. Because patients remain in hospital, the casualty record may change again and should be checked against police updates rather than social-media lists. The Associated Press update places the combined toll from the two attacks at 28: 18 in Wedela, southwest of Johannesburg, and 10 in Lwandle, near Cape Town. The shootings occurred several hours apart in different provinces. What police say happened in Wedela Eight gunmen armed with rifles and pistols attacked a tavern in Wedela at about 9:30 PM SAST on Saturday, September 26, according to the police account. They opened fire on people outside before entering the tavern and continuing to shoot. Police said some patrons were searched and their mobile phones taken. The attackers then fled in two vehicles, while two other vehicles were burned near the tavern. Those facts form part of the investigation; they do not establish a final motive. The attackers then fled in two vehicles, while two other vehicles were burned near the tavern. Those facts form part of the investigation; they do not establish a final motive. A multidisciplinary team of murder and robbery detectives, crime-intelligence officers and crime-scene specialists is investigating. The Reuters report from Wedela said police were also working with the army as security operations intensified around communities affected by illegal mining and armed criminal groups. Residents told Reuters they feared further violence. Police acknowledged that some communities near Johannesburg have been terrorised by armed illegal-mining groups, but investigators have not publicly confirmed that such a group carried out this particular attack. ADVERTISEMENT Lwandle investigation remains separate At about 1:46 AM on Sunday, gunmen entered an entertainment venue in Lwandle and fired at patrons. Five people died at the scene and five others died after being taken for treatment. Eleven people were reported injured. The South African government’s police statement says Western Cape police established a multidisciplinary team led by serious violent crime detectives. It also says deployments were increased in the area while the search for the gunmen continued. No official evidence has connected the Lwandle attackers to the Wedela gunmen. Reporting the cases together reflects their timing and national impact, not a finding that the same people organised both shootings. No arrests had been announced in either case by the latest verified updates. Police have examined possible motives, but no final motive has been confirmed publicly. The Guardian’s account of the initial police statements noted illegal-mining turf conflict as one line of inquiry in Wedela and business rivalry as a possibility raised around Lwandle. Those remain investigative possibilities rather than established conclusions. President Cyril Ramaphosa said security forces would intensify efforts against violent crime. The attacks followed the separate KwaMakhutha shooting , where 11 people were killed days earlier. Police have not said that the three cases are linked. Why the update matters The extra hospital death changes both the Wedela case record and the national total attached to the two weekend attacks. It also underlines the uncertainty that follows mass-casualty events when critically injured patients remain under treatment. The shootings are also unfolding as migrants and refugees face fear before an unofficial September 30 deadline promoted by an anti-immigration movement. The XTRAfrica deadline explainer sets out why that private ultimatum has no legal authority. Nothing in the current shooting investigations supports blaming a nationality or community. Anyone with information about the Lwandle attack has been asked to contact SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app. Information should be given to investigators rather than circulated as unverified identifications online. The immediate questions are whether police make arrests, identify the remaining victims, confirm a motive or issue another casualty update. Until then, the verified position is limited: 18 people have died in the Wedela attack, 10 in Lwandle, the investigations are separate, and the gunmen remain at large. Avoid unofficial status-check websites that request unnecessary personal information or payment. Step 2: Select the Correct Applicant Category The official platform provides separate access for: South African ID holders Asylum seekers Special permit holders Select the category that matches the identity information used in the application. Step 3: Open “My Application Status” South African ID holders can use the official application page: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/said Select the option to check the application status. Step 4: Enter Your Details Enter: The applicant’s identity number The cellphone number used when applying The information must match the details recorded by SASSA. Step 5: Review the Monthly Result SRD applications are assessed monthly. The portal may display a different result for each month. Check: The month being reviewed The status Any reason given Whether a payment date appears Whether identity or banking verification is required Whether an appeal option is available Save a screenshot of the result for reference. Common SASSA SRD Statuses Explained The exact wording shown by the portal may change. Applicants must follow the message displayed in their own application. Application Complete or Submitted SASSA has received the application information. This does not mean the grant has been approved. The agency must still assess eligibility and verify the applicant’s information. Pending The application is still being checked. SASSA may be verifying: Identity information Citizenship or permit information Income or financial support Bank-account activity UIF information Other social-grant records Contact details Fraud or risk indicators A pending status is not a final rejection. Applicants should continue checking the official portal and make sure their registered cellphone number remains active. Approved SASSA has approved the applicant for the month shown. Approval does not always mean that payment has already been released. ADVERTISEMENT Check whether the portal also shows: A payment date A banking-verification result A collection method A request to update payment information Approved With No Payment Date This generally means the application has been approved, but a payment date has not yet been displayed. Possible reasons include: Banking details are still being verified. Payment processing is not yet complete. SASSA is finalising the payment schedule. The applicant must correct payment information. Continue checking the portal rather than paying an unofficial person to “release” the payment. Payment Pending The application may have passed key checks, but the payment process has not been completed. Check that the bank account or payment method belongs to the applicant and that the registered cellphone number is correct. Declined SASSA did not approve the application for the month shown. The portal should provide a reason. Applicants who disagree with the decision may lodge an appeal through the official Department of Social Development appeal platform. A separate appeal is required for each declined month. Identity Verification Required or Failed SASSA could not complete the identity check or needs the applicant to complete an additional verification step. Confirm that: Names match Home Affairs records. The identity number is correct. The registered cellphone number belongs to the applicant. Any electronic identity-verification request is completed through the official portal. The SRD platform includes an official e-KYC status service. Banking Details Pending or Failed SASSA is still checking the applicant’s payment information or could not verify it. The bank account must belong to the applicant. SASSA does not pay the grant into another person’s account. Where a mobile-payment option is used, the cellphone number may also need to be registered in the applicant’s name. Referred The application has been referred for additional verification, often because the system detected information requiring further review. Follow the instructions displayed on the portal. Do not submit random documents or pay anyone claiming to remove the referral. Why an SRD Application May Be Declined The exact reason must be read from the applicant’s official status result. Possible reasons can relate to: Income detected above the applicable threshold UIF eligibility or payments Another social grant Government employment information Identity verification Age requirements Citizenship, refugee, asylum or permit status Duplicate applications Alternative financial support Fraud-risk indicators Incorrect personal information Applicants should not assume the reason from a social-media post. The appeal must respond to the actual reason displayed for the relevant month. How to Appeal a Declined SRD Application Appeals are handled by the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals , not by an unofficial intermediary. Step 1: Open the Official Appeal Website Go to: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/ Step 2: Confirm the Application Details Check that the personal and contact information displayed on the appeal platform is complete and correct. Update contact information where the official system allows it. ADVERTISEMENT Step 3: Select the Declined Month An appeal must be lodged separately for every month the applicant wants the tribunal to reconsider. Appealing one month does not automatically appeal all other declined months. Step 4: Complete the Appeal Accept the declaration and consent terms, provide the requested information and submit the appeal. Save the confirmation message or reference information. Step 5: Check the Appeal Status Return to the official appeal platform to monitor the outcome. The tribunal says it aims to finalise an appeal within approximately 60 to 90 days . Appeal Deadline Applicants should appeal as soon as they receive a declined result. The official appeal platform says an appeal may be lodged: Within 30 days of the decision But not later than 90 days after the decision Missing the appeal period can leave the original SASSA decision in place. What the Appeal Tribunal Checks The tribunal reassesses the decision using available information and verification databases. This may include information about: Income Bank activity Alternative financial assistance UIF records Other social grants Identity and personal details Eligibility for the specific month The tribunal’s decision applies only to the month being appealed. What If the Appeal Is Successful? When an appeal succeeds, the tribunal directs SASSA to initiate payment for the relevant month. Correct contact and payment information is important because SASSA needs valid details to process the payment. A successful appeal does not automatically approve every other month. What If the Appeal Is Unsuccessful? The tribunal’s decision is the final internal appeal decision. The official appeal guidance states that an applicant who remains dissatisfied may seek judicial review in the High Court under the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act within the applicable period. Applicants considering court action should seek qualified legal advice. How to Change Your Cellphone Number Applicants need access to the registered cellphone number for status checks, one-time PINs and communication. The official SRD portal provides a contact-details update service. Official update page: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/contact The system may request: The applicant’s 13-digit South African identity number The six-digit Application ID issued during application or reapplication The new cellphone number A reason for the change A one-time PIN sent to the new number The official service states that only one request to update contact details can be submitted within a 24-hour period. Applicants can also contact SASSA on 0800 601 011 for assistance. Trending Now US Democrats' Rwanda Record: Peaceful Change and Congo Sovereignty . The SRD website provides a service for reporting an unauthorised cellphone-number change. Applicants should use the official reporting option and follow the identity-verification instructions. Do not attempt to recover the application through a person advertising account-recovery services on Facebook, WhatsApp or Telegram. Why the Registered Cellphone Number Matters SASSA uses the number to: Send application feedback Deliver one-time PINs Support status checks Communicate identity-verification steps Confirm contact updates Provide payment or application notices Applicants should use a cellphone number they control and can continue accessing. How to Change Banking Details The official SRD platform also provides a banking-details update service. Open the South African ID-holder page and select the banking-details option: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/said Important rules include: The bank account must belong to the applicant. SASSA cannot pay the grant into another person’s account. A mobile-payment cellphone number must belong to the applicant where required. New banking details apply to future payments after verification. Verification may take time. Never send banking details through an unofficial WhatsApp number. Does the SRD Application Require Documents? The official SRD portal states that application information is provided electronically and that applicants do not generally need to upload documents during the standard online application process. Applicants provide or confirm information such as: Personal details Mobile number Employment information Lifestyle and sustainability information Banking information Consent and declaration information Follow any additional verification instruction shown in the official portal. Who May Qualify for the SRD Grant? The official portal describes the SRD grant as intended for qualifying: South African citizens Refugees Asylum seekers Special permit holders Applicants must generally be between 18 and 60 years old , have insufficient means and meet the programme’s other requirements. The portal also states that applicants should not be receiving another social grant for themselves, should not be contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and should not have financial support from another source, subject to the current regulations and assessment process.
