A primary school teacher, Sbusiso Lawrence, admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend in a shocking video confession shared on social media. He was later found dead, hanging from a tree near the scene of the crime in Malangeni, Umzinto, KwaZulu-Natal.

Police spokesperson Col Robert Netshiunda confirmed that Lawrence, who had confessed to the crime in a viral video, was discovered dead on Wednesday.

The incident began on Tuesday evening when police responded to reports of a murder on a gravel road in Malangeni. The 25-year-old woman’s body was found with multiple stab wounds, lying in the middle of the road. A broken knife was recovered near her body.

Netshiunda explained that Lawrence had reportedly picked up the woman, his former girlfriend, from her home. A domestic dispute is believed to have escalated into violence, resulting in her death.

Blood found on the front passenger seat of Lawrence’s abandoned vehicle suggested the attack occurred inside the car. After an intensive search, police found Lawrence’s body hanging from a tree, indicating a likely suicide. A murder investigation is underway, and an inquest has been opened.

In the widely circulated video, Lawrence, with blood on his face and clothing, said:

“You going to say I am cruel but I have done my best to make sure I make this woman happy. I lost everything and lots of money in the process. She gave birth to a child which is not mine. I tolerated her and took care of the child,” he stated.

He also mentioned they broke up after she received money from the Road Accident Fund.
