Joseph Kabila Accused of High Treason as Congo Seizes Assets and Shuts Down His Party

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is no longer staying silent. In a historic political move, the Congolese government has officially launched legal action against former president Joseph Kabila and his political party, the PPRD. The reason? Complicity with Rwanda’s aggression through the M23 rebel group.
Congo’s Justice Minister Drops the Hammer
On April 19th, Justice Minister Constant Mutamba issued a powerful statement. He didn’t hold back. He clearly accused Joseph Kabila of directly helping Rwanda in its military campaign in eastern Congo, led by the terrorist movement M23/AFC.
“Joseph Kabila Kabange participated directly in the aggression carried out by Rwanda through the M23 movement,” the minister declared.
Because of this, he ordered both the Military Prosecutor of the FARDC and the Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation to begin criminal prosecution against Kabila immediately.
Kabila’s Assets Seized
The government also instructed the seizure of all movable and immovable property belonging to Kabila. Not only that, some of his closest allies now face restrictions on their movements, as they too are accused of being involved in this betrayal labeled as “high treason.”
PPRD Party Shut Down
The crackdown didn’t stop there. Earlier that same day, the Interior Ministry suspended all political activities of Kabila’s party, the PPRD, across the country.
Why? Because the PPRD has been silent about Rwanda’s occupation of Congolese territory. They never condemned the crimes of M23 or the Rwandan army, despite knowing the damage it caused to the Congolese people.

The government now accuses the PPRD of having an “ambiguous and dangerous attitude” violating Congo’s 2004 law that requires all political parties to defend national sovereignty and unity.
“We will take this case to the Constitutional Court to dissolve the PPRD as a political entity,” said the Interior Ministry.
Kabila’s Shady Return to Goma
All this comes just 48 hours after Kabila suddenly returned to Congo through Goma a city still under M23 control. He claimed he was coming back for “patriotic duty.”
But many Congolese are not buying it. His return did not bring peace it reignited political fire.
No official comment has been made yet by Kabila or his party leaders, but the people of Congo see through the lies.
